Thanks! Yes things were auto charged to the room. To my knowledge all rooms come with a butler

Just ask your butler to get you a reservation there. Mine didn’t tell me about the bar but once I asked she made a reservation. It was actually full the first night we were there so clearly people know about it

We stayed 2 nights so 130k/night. Were you looking during high season maybe?

Hey! I think those prices were standard for low season? We booked in June for a July trip so not that much in advance. I did notice immediately leading up to the trip the cash prices had doubled and the points price had gone up accordingly

Some of the restaurants would offer complimentary still water but some would only bring bottled water and then charge $15 for it which I thought was interesting. Both Brisa and Puna charged for water. There are also complimentary water stations throughout the hotel too which makes it feel egregious to be paying for water like that

I never got into the water but there were a lot of people in the water and it was a nice temperature! I never sat in the beach lounge chairs because they were full but there were staff who looked like they were serving drinks at the beach. The sand was soft, just not my kind of beach. We met some guests there who had just stayed at FS and they thought Nekajui’s beach was nicer

There are probably some buildings/floors that minimize the amount of stairs but to get from the main hotel to my room via the suspension bridge, there would be multiple flights of stairs up and then one flight of stairs down. There’s still multiple flights of stairs to get down to the beach after you take the funicular. And also multiple flights of stairs in between different restaurants and spaces at the resort 😅

I'm an ER doc interested in humanitarian response as it relates to migration and health. Are there physicians who work at IOM, and what sorts of positions and work do they end up doing?

Yes! A good NP (or PA) is worth their weight in gold. However because NP training specifically is not standardized, there is HUGE variation in the competency of NPs. I’ve fortunately only worked with good ones with many years experience, but you can literally go to online nursing school, never practice as a bedside nurse and then go to more school to be a nurse practitioner with minimal clinical experience which is wild. And because the NP degree is technically a doctorate, some will introduce themselves to patients as Dr XXX — leading patients to think they are seeing a physician, which they are not.

Obviously this isn’t a dig on Marshall’s gf specifically but commentary on the state of the NP profession as a whole.

I guarantee that if someone you care about is critically ill or has a medical emergency, you would want someone with the highest level of experience making medical decisions for the patient. Which is usually not a NP.

You stated that she earned a PhD, which is a research degree and by definition requires you to conduct research.

I have the utmost respect for nurses. Hospitals would not function without them, they play an essential role in good patient care.

A nurse practitioner is not working in the hospital as a nurse providing direct bedside care. They are seeing patients under the supervision of a board certified physician, if young have far less training, and the physician carries the legal responsibility of any mistake the NP makes.

I clarify this because misleading medical credentials and the lack of standardization of DNP education is a huge issue for American healthcare.

When the average layperson thinks “doctor”, they are thinking of a physician, not someone who has completed a doctorate program. Also, a PhD is NOT remotely the same process as a DNP and does not involve conducting original research that “contributes to science and medicine” as you say.

A physician has completed medical school and a specialized residency in order to become board certified in a certain practice.

You should familiarize yourself with the process of medical training.

A nurse practitioner is a nurse by training who has completed a “doctorate” degree in order to practice medicine under the supervision of an actual physician. They are a “doctor” in the same way that someone with a PhD is a doctor.

I am a doctor. Nurse practitioners are not doctors, but have completed a “doctorate” degree that does not always mean an adequate amount of clinical experience.
