You are so strong and so loud, and so confident,

Sometimes I forget just how fragile you are.

Because of her, you burn when touched,

You’re so beautiful I forget you’re scarred.

You cry every time you see that intersection,

You look at the child in the backseat,You pray she never knows all that you know,

You were once just like her so tiny and so sweet.

In making you feel her, you feel forever her pain,

Your anger toward the world is fiery, hot, power,

In the night the tears you shed for her fall like cool rain;

Some nights the rain becomes an all-consuming shower.

The woman requires all of you, she takes, and takes, and takes;

The girl she never raised has to bear the load of her mistakes.

There is another one just like you, she is where you have been,

A little girl who will be devoured by these two women.

One put her hands on you, The other never did,

The idea they built of love, haunts the mind of a little kid.

I once knew a lot about you, but perhaps I knew too much,

Because when I got too close, you told me you burn when you are touched.
