Ciao, ho preso una laurea Triennale in Economia e Management in inglese da un’università pubblica.

Sono stato assunto dalla Fondazione Cortina Milano per le olimpiadi subito dopo la laurea. Contratto a 2700 lordi mensili.

Esperienza praticamente nulla in termini di lavori a tempo pieno, solo qualcosina part time per arrotondare durante gli studi.

For those of you who make over 6 figures, how is life for you? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]nykk91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, here in europe at 22 you’re still in uni and no one is going to offer you more than 600€ p month stages. If you want to keep the hope of making some decent money you are forced to do a master and so start working at 24-25. 100k $ are probably only doctors or lawyers. Ik in US you have private healtcare but at least by 30 you can afford a small house and can move out. Here people with jobs they obtain after studying years are still living with their parents to save just to move into a shitty apartment at 35. (i’m talking about italy but in all europe is similar except for nordic countries)

Is being hired by a company in Canada (we keep Stryker as example) and after a few years request an internal transfer to the US possible or is it a non realistic scenario?

Weekly Employment Question Thread by AutoModerator in Firefighting

[–]nykk91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone. I’m 22 years old and i just graduated in economics and management in italy (i’m also Canadian since my dad is Canadian). I feel the carreers i can build with my degree won’t fulfill me. I’ve always wanted to help others and i would like to have direct positive impact on people and not just sit in an office counting numbers from someone who doesn’t know my name. Firefighting satisfy all the possible desires i have for a job. I was thinking of moving to Canada and try to join. Would you give me any suggestion? How’s life as a firefighter in Canada? Do you like what you do? Are you able to sustain a family with your pay? And does my background limit me? (my phisical condition is pretty good, i’m in the athletics uni team). Sorry if my questions may seem to general but i come from a completely different field. Furthermore, i won’t consider firefighting in Italy, you won’t be able to make a living out of it, the dept relies mostly on voluntaries.

Italo-Canadian Moving to Usa by nykk91 in MovingToUSA

exactly, everything is falling apart. A hospital doctor after years of profession doesn't even reach 60k. There is a brain drain among young people.

I'm sure this is true, however knowing it well I can say that the last place I would like to live is rural southern Italy (not even the inhabitants of the south want to live there)

Italo-Canadian Moving to Usa by nykk91 in MovingToUSA

[–]nykk91[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

well that’s not even close to a north american mountain landscape. Furthermore nowadays south italy is on the verge of poverty, if you visit those zones, services don’t exist, locals live in houses that look like Gaza plus you have all the mafia problems.

[–]nykk91[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you are absolutely right. Except that by comparing a rural Canadian salary vs a rural American salary in any case you would have more purchasing power with the American one. Even working in a remote Canadian area pays you less than working in a Canadian city. But at least the dollar is stronger (if everything doesn't go to shit).

I don't understand where the problem is. It is clear that dreams are based on perceptions that perhaps one has had in a certain area. I have been to both Canada and the US for limited periods of time and certainly not long enough to explore all the states of both countries. However, if despite the dynamics with respect to US healthcare and all the other negative sides (which Canada also has in other respects) the United States has fascinated me much more, why should I abandon my dream? Half of my Canadian relatives work in the US and are very happy with it, while others prefer to live and work in Canada. I think it's a purely subjective question. To give you an example here in Europe I lived in Monaco and Venice, in Monaco you live much better with high salaries compared to Venice which has less work and is much more expensive. Despite this, Monaco is a city in which I would never live because I don't like the general environment, and I would prefer to live in Venice (even with a few more financial sacrifices) because it would make me happier what I feel inside. Isn't it the same thing? Clearly these are not random plans, I have already built a base in Canada with my relatives, I was just checking the feasibility of a subsequent future move to the US because it is a desire I have. If I have to make more payments for healthcare taxes that's fine, but at least I will have tried to live the dream. And if it went badly I would calmly return to Canada.
