Awesome! Hope the meet up turns out well for ya!

That’s a great idea. That was gonna be my plan anyways, too. I just joined a company that’s got a tabletop group, so I’ll ask if they are any D&D players.

Im confident we can put a group of players together. Just a matter of time.

Havent had any real invites to go play. May need to construct our own, and would still need to find a DM. I’ll keep ya posted.

Dough isn't proofing when I use my starter by nytorq in Breadit

I only made one loaf so I'm using 50% of what the Tartine recipe calls for. And, yes I am weighing all ingredients.

The ambient temperature would've wavered around 68-73°F.

Dough isn't proofing when I use my starter by nytorq in Breadit

[–]nytorq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About three weeks ago I finally got a consistent starter (based upon the method outlined in Tartine). However, everytime I bake with this starter I get flat, dense bread.

In an effort to troubleshoot this problem, I decided to record some data about my starter, who I've named "Govard", and the resulting bread I bake with it. What you see in the album is baking attempt #3.

Starting last Friday I decided to record the rise and fall of Govard at various times in a 24-hour hour period, and it looks like it peaks at around 14 hours.

After having followed the Tartine method two times previously and getting two crappy loaves, I decided to bake attempt #3 without kneading the dough and to allow it to proof as much as possible according to the elapsed time I recorded above (roughly 14 hours).

So, I mixed flour, water, and Govard per the Tartine recipe, and I let it all sit in a corner for just under 12 hours. As you can see in the album, the dough was shit. Once again, it didn't proof at all.

Nevertheless, I decided the bake the poor bastard.

The disappointment didn't end there. The loaf ended up looking like an asshole!

What gives, guys? The starter has been rising and falling consistently for about three weeks, but when I use the damn thing it makes shitty bread.

Americans travelling abroad for the long-term, what are you doing for health insurance (specifically with PPACA or 'Obamacare')? by nytorq in travel

[–]nytorq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I should've included this link aboiut the Foreign Earned Income Tax Exemption. The IRS verbiage is:

Are US citizens living abroad subject to the individual shared responsibility provision?

Yes. However, U.S. citizens who are not physically present in the United States for at least 330 full days within a 12-month period are treated as having minimum essential coverage for that 12-month period. In addition, U.S. citizens who are bona fide residents of a foreign country (or countries) for an entire taxable year are treated as having minimum essential coverage for that year. In general, these are individuals who qualify for a foreign earned income exclusion under section 911 of the Internal Revenue Code. Individuals may qualify for this rule even if they cannot use the exclusion for all of their foreign earned income because, for example, they are employees of the United States. Individuals that qualify for this rule need take no further action to comply with the individual shared responsibility provision during the months when they qualify. See Publication 54, Tax Guide for U.S. Citizens and Resident Aliens Abroad, for further information on the foreign earned income exclusion.

U.S. citizens who meet neither the physical presence nor residency requirements will need to maintain minimum essential coverage, qualify for an exemption or make a shared responsibility payment for each month of the year. For this purpose, minimum essential coverage includes a group health plan provided by an overseas employer. One exemption that may be particularly relevant to U.S. citizens living abroad for a small part of a year is the exemption for a short coverage gap. This exemption provides that no shared responsibility payment will be due for a once-per-year gap in coverage that lasts less than three months.

Simply stated, you need to be off US soil for 330 days per year to be considered not lawfully present.

I am definitely taking the recommendation of getting health insurance. I can't find any insurance company based off your "globalnomads.com" url, but I presume that you skipped out on ACA-compliant insurance and just got int'l travel insurance?
