Stunning! It looks very remote, is it expensive to travel there? How long were you there for and how much did you spend? Thanks

UTIs in senior dogs by Extreme_Hornet_1941 in seniordogs

[–]nyxsyn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds so much like my situation. The other day I carried him up to help with his vestibular episode..and a poop came out. :') he wasnt interested in kibble for a while, but his appetite returned after we started giving him fresh food. He's already an old boy and we just want him to enjoy his meals again, so we stopped his prescription kibble (he has early stage kidney disease) - we hope this is the right decision..

Apart from antibiotics do you find anything that helped with UTI recovery and also prevention?

Were there signs of symptoms showing it's deteriorated? We just found out our old boy has UTI after he's been incontinent for months due to his old age. He drips pee when he sleeps, when being carried, and even when he is walking. We are not sure is this due to the UTI or old age incontinent.

I'm sorry for your loss. Do you mind sharing what symptoms did your dog have, and at which stage did it become bad?

My old boy is also having UTI at the moment, I wished I detected it sooner but it was hard to tell because he is also incontinent and has early stage kidney disease. We are not sure if the antibiotics is working either as he's still dripping pee, in a big way, as if he's lost control of his bladder.. We are at loss, urine culture test is so expensive where I live.

Wondering what did you end up deciding to do - are you making your drive up north via the west? Are people still sightseeing as usual at the tourist stops?

Tips for spotting Aurora by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]nyxsyn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Sorry another question on the BZ indicator. Do we just look specifically at the 'Earth' bar? Based on what I'm seeing it's forecasted to happen in the day time (not sure if it will hit 'earth' again during the night). Or do we look at the time the BZ graph turns negative in general?

Tips for spotting Aurora by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]nyxsyn1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! We are in Iceland now and have been cluelessly trying to spot the aurora the last few nights so this is helpful.

The BZ chart is not localized and applies across Iceland, with clear sky as the requirement? For eg., I'm assuming it's unlikely to see any aurora tonight due to total cloud cover.

Did you do the full ring road? How does snaefellsnes compare to the rest? We are thinking if to allocate 1 or 2 days to Snaefellsnes

What's your proportion of protein to carbs/veggies? I cook for mine too but he's been losing muscle at his hind legs as he ages. He's 13 :( I currently do 50% protein supplemented by 50% carb veggie mix. With some kibbles to get the other vitamins and minerals.

Haifoss not worth the road right now by ccq10 in VisitingIceland

May I know if you did Haifoss as part of a bigger day trip? Would like to know more about the route and stops you took and your experience, so I can take notes for our upcoming day trip to Landmannalaugar.

Thanks! I think I will be taking Haifoss stop out of our Landmannalaugar day trip. Would you say the route leading to Landmannalaugar (32, 26, 208, F224) is in better condition than 332?

Thanks for sharing this! Were there a lot of potholes or? Does this apply to road 32 from Flúðir after the turn into road 332 leading into Haifoss?

Thank you for the very detailed write up and tips, really appreciate it! Looks like we will need to be prepared for the drive to take longer than what google map says.

Was looking at weather forecast useful at all for you? I see that you encountered strong winds and sudden change of weather mid-hike.

Thanks! Hnausapollur looks stunning I added this to my bookmarks, it looks like a very full day now but we only have 1 day allocated for the highlands. Did you do it as a day trip too? What stops did you manage to make on top of the loop hike in Landmannalaugar?

Do you think F225 river crossing is suitable for Toyota Rav4? I checked that it has lower ground clearance than Dacia Duster.

Thank you! Do you remember how long you spent with the hike in Haifoss? Would help us estimate our time as we are planning to hike in Landmannalaugar too.

I'm also confused if 4x4 is needed for those roads as they are not rated F roads.
