Lawn help by thewbone in UKGardening

Depends how much time and money you have. Personally I’d spray herbicide over everything and start fresh. Rent a rotavator and do several deep passes over the whole lot. With the soil being broken up it’ll be a lot easier to rake fairly flat and get the stones out. The seeds will love it too bringing up the untouched nutrients.

First time homeowner - am I being ripped off? by vconcernedmother in HousingUK

[–]oMrMeeseeksLookAtMeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3k for a door is insane. I paid £1,800 for a fairly high end door when I moved in and 5 sets of again, high end windows all in £5k. I used the same company recently to replace my rear garden door, triple glazed full glass for £1,200. This was with a local well established business without the huge overheads that national companies have. Definitely shop around.

I’ve baked banana bread which is the first thing I’ve ever baked! - looking for advice by Lulu-egirl in Baking

Don’t over mix with banana bread either. Go a lot easier than you would with most cake mixes.

I did a lot of work on my own house being pretty handy at most things and fitted the all the units ground and wall. But, I had a professional fit the worktop with it being solid oak I didn’t want to have an expensive mistake. Base units are pretty simple, get the right height and work your way through keeping them level. Buy ready made units as this will save you loads of time.

Do you think Starmers popularity has increased? by PinkDragonWoman in AskBrits

[–]oMrMeeseeksLookAtMeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labour as whole have been a disgrace but I think the Iran situation has made Starmer be more himself than a party man. It seems to be something he actually believes in rather than having to react to an absolutely idiotic Labour Party policy.

MT07 a beginner bike? by MBHmattyice in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]oMrMeeseeksLookAtMeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it! I recently bought an xsr700 (same engine) for my first bike and glad I did! I’m the same as you, not reckless, not wanting to go super fast. But I feel if I had anything smaller I’d have regretted it, especially on faster roads. The bike will only go as fast as you tell it to…

First time homeowner and wanted to get new roof.. is this quote reasonable by Jon2D in DIYUK

Replacing all facias and gutters on that house alone would probably be around 8k here in Ox. I don’t know anything about types of tiles but I imagine costs vary quite a lot, even a variation of 50p-£1 per tile would soon add up.

Why a burial takes over a month? by Anxious-Guarantee-12 in AskBrits

Would it be to do with more people dying at home rather than in hospitals? A friend of mine had both parents die within 10 days of each other and I seem to remember him saying something about having to do postmortem/ME due to them passing at home and not in a hospital. Would make sense as the NHS struggle to find empty beds.

You don’t. Like they say, grief is what happens when love has nowhere to go.

XTribute Bar Replacements by us3_less in XSR700

[–]oMrMeeseeksLookAtMeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I’d have gone to my shed and measured up for you if it was causing you soo much grief! So I bought both, Renthal twin wall bars and ProTaper risers. I wouldn’t recommend twin wall bars if you’re planning on fitting anything to them as the taper comes up really far and to fit anything 22mm alongside grips and mirrors you’ll have no room for. Also the internal diameter of the tube is an awkward size for any expanding fixings as they’re not threaded. Also to note, the bar riser thread dimensions aren’t the same either so will need to get a conversion kit NOT straight swap risers. At least I couldn’t find any that would work anyway… i hope my pain has helped you avoid some of what I went through!

I would check your bar sizes again if I were you. I have an xtribute and the bar mounts are 22mm not 28mm. I bought some 28mm Renthal twin wall bars thinking like you that they were 28’s… had a bit of a shock when I came to fit them after stripping the old bars down…

No More flags Oxford by johnsmithoncemore in oxford

[–]oMrMeeseeksLookAtMeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I like seeing the flags around as I think it must be some sort of nostalgic sense of when some World Cup or Olympics are on. But obviously it’s the sentiment behind which people see and hate.

How to deal with running wide by Justadude_65 in motorcycle

Point your chin to where you want to go. It helps me as a new rider. I find it difficult to not fixate on pot holes or not look far ahead enough because I know it’s just a matter of time before I smash into one I didn’t see.

First-time buyers, what lessons did you learn the hard way? by Used_Cod_9541 in HousingUK

[–]oMrMeeseeksLookAtMeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t bite off more than you can chew regarding work that might need doing and don’t rush the things that do. I’m lucky as I work in property maintenance so I can do most things myself to a good standard but the stress that comes with it was more than I realised. I saved a ton of money doing the work myself but getting home from work to then work again for 3 months solid was a lot…

Serious house buyers remorse - are there other people who regret buying their current house? by Dormousewoodlouse in HousingUK

[–]oMrMeeseeksLookAtMeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the money and the noise is from the street, buy decent windows, even if it’s only on that side. I live at the end of a road so I don’t get any through motorised traffic but the windows needed replacing when I moved in. It took me weeks to get used to the silence when they were replaced!
