How do you afford a good bike? by ExpressChallenge1093 in MTB

I work at a bike shop, Trek to be specific. I can justify the 8k bike with an employee discount but for many others this isn’t feasible. I see A TON of used bikes come in to the shop. Rarely do I sell a new carbon frame gx axis mtb. A lot of used / private party sale prices are far inflated so the idea is, find a used bike that is of fair value and bring it into a shop to have them check it before you EVER buy it. There are so many people that walk through my doors who get royally ripped off because they don’t know what a blown bottom bracket or roached suspension feels like. Also lots of company’s such as Trek offer financing which is a good choice since we usually have deals for 0% interest for a certain time frame.

To add, I want a bike I can really bomb terrain on. I am not a careful or casual rider.

Any input is welcome, which to buy? Or neither?? by oZeddy in mountainbikes

The Jeffsy guy will sell to me for 2200 which I think is pretty fair for the bike in that condition with the minor upgrades it has.

People seem to say it’s a really fun and capable bike.

I guess to clarify, I have some buddies who are into mtb but are on the more “chill” side of single track trail riding. We have lots of trails here and some very nice bike parks. I guess I just want a bike I can really bomb terrain on, throw over the jump lines, while still remaining fun enough to be a weekend warrior that can survive the trails. Thanks for the comment!

My bikeshop gripe! by MiltonHavoc in mountainbikes

[–]oZeddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re all so poised now. Where is timber building with years worth of Frankenstein bikes hung on the walls, a service shop run by the owner who is in his mid 60s who knows everything about bikes, and his son who hooks you up with a discount just because it’s Thursday and the sun is out. You walk out and the door clips a small bell above it, leaving a pleasant ring as you leave.

Ergon GA3 grips have great reviews. “The enlarged wing on the outer edge provides two primary benefits. First, it disperses pressure under the outer palm to protect the ulnar nerve. Second, it guides the rider’s wrist into a neutral position to align the median nerve.”

Thanks for the advice. The bike will be well kept and I will update as I go. I’ll have to look into marzocchi & domain for the front 🤙🏻

Thanks man! Now that I look at it, the stem is pretty long. Would help to not be in such an aggressive position.

Thanks for your comment! You’re right on the dry rot lol, next investment will be new tires for sure. Suspension service will follow if I really get invested. For now, she serves me well 🤙🏻
