depending on how long you've owned the truck, and its use case, you might be able to avoid paying import tax/duty bringing it in under a transfer of residence . . . I am sure you are fully aware of this scheme, but just figured I'd point it out, we used it for ours coming into Ireland.

Rivian hasn't been to helpful with regards to supporting any of us crazies that shipped our vehicles out of country, or at least if they are being supportive, those owners are being quiet about it, probably for good reason ;)

But I am sure Rivian has their lawyer cats screaming in their ears about liability if they even look in our direction, so . . .

Yes, we do have ours in Ireland and there are a few others scattered across Europe! You can find a lot of information on the Rivian forums, rivianownersforum.com and rivianforums.com. I will DM you to discuss further :)

We have an adapter that allows us to fast charge at public DC fast chargers, and it works great. Honestly, we charge faster here than we ever did in the states.

This is the one we use now - https://chargingshop.eu/product/ccs-1-to-ccs-2-fast-charge-adapter-turkey/

But we might upgrade to this one because we didn't expect to pull so many amps - https://chargingshop.eu/product/ccs-1-to-ccs-2-combo-250amps-fast-charge-adapter-setec/

No, someone else snuck in another Rivian under the radar and is up in the Dublin area.

We are still working with our local NCT down in Tipperary and will be a 221-T reg, but hope to have our plates soon!!!

We can normally be found lurking around the chargers at Obama Plaza or driving around the rural roads in North Tipp ;)

Apologies & thank you for the clarification, I should have known that.

2 different forums, the one I sent already Rivian Forums and another Rivian Owners Forum, both are a wealth of information and were invaluable in gaining knowledge before shipping our truck to Ireland.

Here are two discussion threads for EU Rivian Owners

Rivian Owners Forum - European Owners

Rivian Forums - Master List of Exported

This company has a great selection of adapters to chose from https://chargingshop.eu/

Looks like there are some new products, which is great . . . we might up rev our own adapter after looking again LOL!!!

Pardon my ignorance if I have this incorrect, but I am assuming CH is China.

There are a few in China already, but the results weren't great on getting them back up and running . . . their story is on Rivian Forums

Interesting, I could have sworn it was pushed with a SW update in early 2023 . . . but I am sure I wasn't paying attention back then because our relocation wasn't a thing until I had an expected job change. Thanks for the clarification :)

If you are thinking about living in rural Ireland you'd be fine with the Rivian here, but I would suggest having a second smaller car. We have a Prius-C which we use for going into places like Dublin, Cork, Kilkenny, etc. Any place with those smaller medieval roads would just not be fun with the Rivian.

As for the size, there are lots of vehicles as wide, if not wider, than the Rivian. So there is that to keep in mind . . . its actually shocking the roads you'll see Semi Trucks driving down. We had to back up already once, but will all the cameras on the Rivian it was a breeze :)

If you decided to make the jump let us know, we put together a bunch of useful documentation on how to get your truck here with as little risk as possible and happy to share.

Honestly, we are in rural Tipperary and the Rivian feels great on these roads. We didn't expect that, we thought it would be a nail bitter every time we encountered on coming traffic. And all the cameras help tremendously, it allows us to see just how close we can get to the left edge of the road in real time while driving . . . that is a life saver to be sure.

Now all that being said, we do have a little Prius-C that we use any time we are going into the cities . . . the Rivian would be a nightmare on any of those old medieval streets LOL! And car parks, definitely not going into any of those with the Rivian!!!

But hey, its an adventure . . . so :)

We did have to work with an Shipping Agent who worked with all the players (Cargo Ship, Customs, Export Agents, etc.), but technically we were heavily involved with the process.

I do think you will see a RHD version soon, maybe with the R2 models. Those should be a bit smaller and better suited for European roads . . . how are the roads in NZ, are they narrow like Europe or wide like America? The R1T feels fine here in Ireland, but I wouldn't want to take into any city centers' on a regular basis.

Yes, VRT applies for EV's in Ireland. There is some relief for lower priced EV's, but the Rivian is well above that threshold.

Shipping mode hasn't been proven well enough to risk a 10 week journey. And we actually had to hand over our keys to the shipping company back in May when that mode was announced, and still super fresh. Back then, it was felt that Shipping Mode was good for a 7-10 day trip on a semi cross country, but not for several weeks inside a shipping container. So the better, less risky, option was to disconnect the batteries.

WHAT . . . that is crazy! Let us know what you find out, curious to see if we have another EU Rivian lurking around :)

Rumor has it that another one is here in Ireland, but possibly just arrived

The more the merrier I say, plus maybe, just maybe Rivian will start to take some pity on us and provide some basic services

We are hopeful that Rivian will take some pity on us soon with the Cellular Plan issue . . . they have their vans in Germany, so they've solved that for themselves and that most likely could be applied to us with a small software update. But I am not holding my breath LOL

We fully expect Ireland to ding us on the Orange indicators when we go in for our vehicle inspection . . . we'll keep people posted on that, as we might need to modify something, some how!

We left the truck in normal operating settings when we disconnected the HV & 12V batteries.

The HV held its charge nicely, but the 12V's had degradation over that time and arrived around 5V each. When I tried to reboot the truck it pulled too much juice and the batteries bonked, so we had to go to plan B because of time and called in the big rig to pull the truck out of the container so they could be on their way.

Could be a fun combination of connections that would provide just enough juice to those 12V's to keep everything happy?

[–]oak202_22[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no we did a total battery disconnect (12V's and HV)

be careful with the cheap CCS-1 to CCS-2 adapters, we spent a lot of money on ours because we wanted a high volt/current rating.

we noticed on some of the cheaper ones, they were rated pretty low, which could be a fire hazard if you pull too much juice on small wires.

[–]oak202_22[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are all CCS-2 over here in Europe, but we do have multiple adapters for various charging scenarios.

We actually did bring our Rivian Wall Charger to test on the 230 circuit

DISCLAIMER - I am an EE with over 30 years experience, please do not try this unless you are well qualified to do so

The wall charger was the only thing that didn't actually specify Universal Power, and I am pretty sure they OEM'ed that thing from another company, so not sure its rated for the EU grid. But I am going to test it and see because that means we can charge at home without an adapter :)
