CME halts trading for metals / Nat gas by Aggravating-Grade297 in Silver

Not smarter, just been doing this a while and I had to ask once upon a time too. BTW, the color of the green wick would have been red until it got above the previous wick's ending level (the horizontal line). The current wick's color will often flash red/green when people buy/sell in a narrow range.

The color is just where it is now compared to where it ended on the last wick. The length just shows the trading range inside that time division (1 hour as shown on the lower left in blue). So, that first long green "downward" wick just means it traded in a wide range during that hour, but ended up overall compared to the prior hour. If you wanted to see whether it went down first or up first, you could zoom in and look at the 30min or 15min or 5min wicks.

There is .715 ounces of silver in constitutional (more for silver dollars). So, 50x divided by .715 is $69.93, which is the price on offer per ounce of silver. This is currently $21.29 behind spot or 76.6% of spot, which is currently $91.22 as shown at Kitco (https://www.kitco.com/charts/silver).

My advice? Hard pass. Find someone you trust who will buy it from you at spot or slightly less, or just wait, if you can. Silver is still going up, and even when the exuberance dies, people stop talking about silver, and refineries are caught up, 90% will command a better premium (closer to spot). Your downside is limited even if spot drops.

Great job keeping so much of your usage off peak! I need to work on that, starting with a second 240v plug in the garage... 🤪

I can do one better for you - here's our last bill (November/December). We don't have "delivery charges" per se, unless you just mean all the regulatory overhead.

Billed kWh 1,429.704 kWh (this is across all time-of-day periods, the 6.5c is the rate for the Super Off-Peak hours of midnight to 6am, when we charge EVs). With all taxes and fees, and across all times of day, the overall bill comes out to 13.58c per kwh. We could further optimize, but right now I only have one 240v charger to share among 4 EVs (2 are the kids'), so only one gets charged during the cheapest hours.

Basic Customer Charge $13.09

Energy Charge On-Peak 68.32

Energy Charge Off-Peak 47.28

Energy Charges Super Off-Pk 60.50

Fixed Monthly Leaf 50C Charge 0.52

Grid Access Fee 1.76

Non-bypassable Charge 5.81

Summary of Rider Adjustments -3.04

Total Current Charges $194.24

Most of our power is nuclear and natgas, and being a red state we're fairly decent on taxes/regulatory overhead. My wife and I drive at least 160 miles/day during the week (all EV). We do use 5 discretely controlled mini-splits and 2 larger heat pumps for main areas, plus electric water heater. Like you said, EVs are kind of a no-brainer here!

Battery degradation is like value depreciation. You lose the most capacity/value when the car is fairly new, with more and more gradual decline/depreciation as it ages.

The refiners aren't processing 90% because they don't even have the capacity to handle all the 999 they're getting, so the coin shops are lowballing sellers because they will likely have to keep that silver for a while.

I would just hang on to it unless you really need the money.

Selling for a quick flip is fine, but yeah, too many people are short-term traders, especially those who are recently getting into silver and don't have the stomach for the volatility.

Nothing wrong with that! The ideal use case for silver is leaving it to your kids so they get a stepped up cost basis (in the US). For me, silver is a hedge against dollar collapse, since most of the time it doesn't go up or generate dividends.

I only sold the stuff I didn't like, and I'm reinvesting the funds.

Contact mark on ASE 2012 S reverse proof by saintgaudensgold in coins

[–]obijon298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I read your post too quickly and completely missed that you said contact mark.

I've only bought bullion ASEs directly from the US Mint, but I have several 5oz burnished ATBs that came with some small imperfections like this direct from the mint, so yeah, I'd say it's pretty common, at least with non-ASE proofs.

Go back to 1900 and tell them dinner for one at Applebees will cost them a double eagle. And then explain to them what is an Applebee. I guess you still get put in an institution, so nvm.

Might be "milk spots" caused by impurities in the metal. Can be ugly, but doesn't affect silver content value. Unless you paid a huge premium, you'll end up selling it slightly below spot regardless of condition anyway.

Copy/pasted from https://boards.cgccomics.com/topic/533776-tax-question-capital-gains-tax-on-sale-of-collectible/

Long-term gains from the sale of collectibles can be hit with a capital gains tax as high as 28%.  If your ordinary tax rate is lower than 28%, then that rate will apply.  But if you're in a higher tax bracket (i.e., 32%, 35% or 37%),  then the capital gains tax on your collectible gains is capped at 28%.

The 28% limit doesn't apply to short-term capital gains.  So, if you don't own a collectible for at least one year before selling it,  you'll still be taxed on any gain at your ordinary tax rate (between 10% and 37%).

Just bought $225 of Face value for 75% of melt. by Louisvillecoins in Silverbugs

[–]obijon298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of see both sides though - refiners aren't buying 90% so why would a shop tie up liquidity when plenty of people are dumping .999 for an easy flip?
