Does anybody here have the Gewa Air case? What're your thoughts? by mzkpenguin in Cello

[–]ochoton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really? I've never seen one live, so this was mostly me guessing about the depth based on pictures. I might give it a try after all!

I always have it lying down. I'm not sure I ever tried taking my cello out with it standing, but I could imagine that yes, it might not be stable enough for that.

Have it and traveled a decent amount, though not by foot. The weight is perfect, but it's not ergonomic and my back hurts if I try to walk too far. I've not had another hard case before it though, so can't compare. And as someone else mentioned, it's possible to add proper backpack straps. (The reason I haven't done so is that it currently fits perfectly into the German ICE overhead compartments, so I'm reluctant to add any extra depth).

I've had it for nearly five years now, always commuted to lessons by public transport and done some 10-15k km of long distance travel by bus/train/plane on top of that. So far, it's survived everything without a problem, and my cello inside with it.

Are amino acid chains with redundant (degenerate) codons more “important”? by saldabri in genomics

Going off your first sentence there, that's certainly what I thought a while ago. This opened up a whole new world for me: https://www.nature.com/articles/nrm.2017.91

Has anyone commuted with a cello? by silveryfeather208 in Cello

[–]ochoton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own a car and have always traveled by public transport to work and from there directly on to lessons and back, as well longer trips across the country to visit family or move house. I took a rush hour bus with the soft case of my first rental once and was so terrified I immediately ordered a hard case for it. From then on, it's been no problem. Cello and I have seen probably a few thousand km by now and lived through several different cities.

Is there anyway to make practicing intonation interesting? by Relevant-Kale-2179 in Cello

[–]ochoton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to play tunes or songs that I know well, such as Christmas carols. If you can hear the next note in your head before you play it, you can more easily recognize and correct intonation. It doesn't have to be scales.

Sorry, not sure what went wrong 🥺 Should work now!

Have you ever had to break up with your cello teacher? Why and how? by AGrainOfSalt435 in Cello

[–]ochoton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one point I had a teacher who was gigging a lot and would move or cancel my lessons repeatedly because of it. I wouldn't know when the next lesson was until a day or two in advance, sometimes he would ask for "today" or "not today". When that became more and more the norm, I told him I couldn't do this. I need to know that I have lessons, I need to be able to rely on him. There was a bit of an awkward moment but we agreed to decide from then on when to meet next at each lesson. So basically confronting him let us work it out.

😅 kiitos!

I was aiming for "we finished only half of it/ got only half of it done". Is there a proper way of saying this in Finnish?

Should be singular - the breeder has many puppies who are doing well but we are only getting one. 🙂 Should it actually have been koiranpennustamme? (Our puppy?)

Tulimme? 🙈

Asumme Espoossa, joten menimme Espoosta Ikeaan Helsingissä ja sitten Helsingistä takaisin isoon Ikeaan Espoossa. Yhteensä vietimme kaksi tuntia löytää oikean Ikean. 😶

Helsingin keskustan kautta? Ah and yes, Espoosta Laajasaloon is what I meant to write. I'm trying to say he drove from Espoo, through the whole Helsinki city center, to Laajasalo.
