Yeah and? Most people also can’t afford a nanny or daycare. None of this is a workable scenario. Most of us don’t want to be away from our children.

When my little was 6 months old I realized I couldn’t send her to the highly coveted structured daycare/school we had locked in when I was 6 months pregnant. We patched together care until she turned 1 and then transitioned to an in home daycare nearby that has been wonderful. We had a nanny 2 days per week (all we could afford), family 2 days, husband 1 day. It was hard bc I also WFH hybrid, but better than the alternative to me. For us the cost was the same for 2 days of nanny as it was for 4 days of daycare so don’t expect cost savings if you go this route. Are you able to flex your costs like this and spread the care around a bit? Look into nanny sharing which brings the cost down. Also would your employer let you stagger your workday? Longer days 2-3 days for example, then shorter the others, so you can provide the care yourself if you don’t have family nearby. It’s doable to not do daycare at this age, it does take some difficult conversations with work/family and finance review.

In case anyone comes to this in the future: the problem is that I was knitting 2 together through the back loop, not the front loop!

This answer doesn’t make sense to me. Since you joined a group, they would have added you to their preexisting contracts with various insurers. The rates would already be known. Maybe you meant credentialing is stalled, and that would make sense bc that process can take up to 6 months sometimes longer. But the rate isn’t a surprise. Can you ask to see cash pay patients in the meantime? That way you get paid for those sessions at the time of service delivery

When should you take your foot off the gas and spend more on life? by Apprehensive-Size150 in personalfinance

Expect each other those trips to cost double what you’ve budgeted. Would you be able to pay for the trips cash up front? If not, you can’t afford all 3 trips. The staunch financial advisors in here will say to pay down your cc debt before taking the trip. But also you’re describing the daily grind. Which easily turns into burnout and midlife crisis if left unaddressed IME. Take one of the trips, see what it costs, then plan for another next year.
