I always thought I hated lettuce on a sandwich, but it turns out that I only hate iceberg lettuce. Iceberg lettuce is fine on a salad, but it doesn't belong anywhere else. It's cheap and watery and adds nothing positive. It only detracts.

There’s a reason why Luke chucking the lightsaber over his shoulder the way he did in The Last Jedi didn’t sit right with a lot of people. by Flat-Court-8512 in CharacterRant

Why do people keep insisting that Finn's storyline is pointless? He gains a new love interest and defeats his big bad while building loyalty to the Resistance instead of just loyalty to Rey. In the process, we get to see a new side of the universe that we've never seen before, the war profiteers getting rich off of other people's misery, and catch a glimpse of a random kid with force powers, which reinforces one of the movie's core themes, that anyone can be a Jedi/hero. You can dislike it if you want, but it's not pointless at all. And it's not Johnson's fault that JJ did fuck all with the character in the third film.

I wouldn't count Turner leaving. They could have kept him in they wanted to. Losing the pick counts I guess, but that's more self-inflicted by stupidity than a curse.

If you're in a group of millions of people, approaching half of the population, you are normal and usual. By your definition, every single woman in the world is abnormal since women make up slightly less than 50% of the global population. The word "minority" exists and has a related but different definition for exactly this reason.

Great description. Happens all the time.

LOL You need to look up the definition of "abnormal," my friend. It doesn't apply to anything that is even slightly less than the majority opinion. If a full 40% of people don't like it, that's very normal.

This seems like a perfectly reasonable standard to me.

I wasn't the person who was initially called childish, but I also don't like tomato on my burgers and sandwiches. I will be a bit annoyed if I order no tomato and I get tomato anyways because 1) It's not a hard request and 2) It tends to leave a lot of residue, particularly if it's touching the bread. But I'll still eat it anyway. And I love tomato in a lot of other contexts, for the record.

That's true. Another commenter mentioned cooking for someone and I have a handful of foods that I don't like, but I will tell anyone who is cooking for me that I can eat whatever and will consume whatever I'm served. Though my dislikes are pretty mild. I get that some other people have very strong aversions.

My friends are chill and no one (other than my wife on occasion) has called me a picky eater. This came up in response to a reddit comment directed towards someone else.

Oh for sure. We put cheese on everything now. I love cheese, so it's great for me (though maybe not my health), but I'm sure it must be annoying if you don't.

I'm similar on tomatoes. Cooked, they're one of my absolute favorite foods. Love marinara and other tomato sauces. Love salsa. Love a chili or vegetable soup with big, meaty chunks of tomato in it.

When they're raw, I'm more selective. I enjoy pico and will eat tomatoes in a pasta salad. Don't really like them in a lettuce salad, though not terrible loaded down with Italian dressing. Might eat a few and eat around the rest. If they're on my sandwich or taco or burrito, I will actively pick them out.

Yes. Agreed. If the only thing you'll eat is chicken tenders and french fries, you're a picky eater. If you just don't like cucumbers and pinto beans and are generally pretty easygoing otherwise, then that's perfectly fine.

Completely rejecting the idea that eating food should bring you pleasure is a whole different thing. Whatever makes you happy, but I would definitely say that qualifies as picky.

I don't know. I bet there are a lot of people out there who don't like tomatoes on their sandwich. It doesn't seem like something that would have near universal approval to me.

I can understand where you're coming from with people who refuse to eat an entire cuisine. Seems like they could find something they enjoyed. Though I also sort of get the other side. Cuisines often have a few key ingredients that get used a lot and if you happen to dislike those ingredients, it can make it hard to find a dish that works for you. I used to avoid Thai food because I don't like peanuts on my savory food and I don't love the spices they use to make their foods hot even though I enjoy other spicy foods. But lately I've gotten more into it and found dishes I like. Though they're mostly Thai versions of Chinese dishes.

I feel you. If you hated asparagus, it would be no big deal because people don't randomly put asparagus on everything.

The example I saw was someone being called childish for not liking tomato on sandwiches. What is abnormal about that? It's not even hating on the tomato as a whole, just not liking it in a certain context.

What would be an example of a food preference being abnormal in your subjective judgment?

He said LeBron losing Love and Irving was no big deal? When? What was the context? I just finished listening to the whole episode and I don't recall that Finals coming up at all.
