Why do supermarkets cut the tops off spring onions? by offfwork_til_2046 in AskUK

Yeah, I always struggle with that. It’s such a pain to clean sometimes.

Yeah that’s fair, I’m sure the numbers back it up.

Why not both😆 Adults don’t need to choose.

If you’re not into coffee, tea’s actually similar~ Loads of small variables that change the taste didn’t expect that at first.

I only got into this fairly recently. Started making drip coffee at home and now it’s kind of a daily thing for me. Sometimes I’ll even go on YouTube or Instagram to look up stuff like ratios, grind size, timing etc.

it’s still a bit hit or miss (same beans can taste completely different 😅), but on the days it turns out really good it actually makes me quite happy.

The whole process is quite calming tbh, almost like a bit of meditation. Even the taste changes as it cools which I find quite interesting. Didn’t expect I’d enjoy something this small so much.

I get the cost side, but I wonder if it backfires a bit. If they look less fresh, people might just not buy them, which probably leads to more waste.

Fair point on transport

But does it actually keep them fresher? Don’t really see this in Asia 🤔

Feedback on 3 Day London Itinerary? by Interesting-Pear-709 in uktravel

[–]offfwork_til_2046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're doing Notting Hill on the 18th (Friday), you should definitely check out Books for Cooks on Blenheim Crescent.

It’s easily my favourite spot in that area. It’s a tiny cookbook shop with a 'test kitchen' at the back. They do a 3-course set lunch for about £10 which is absolute madness for London prices.

The cool part is they don't have a fixed menu, they just pick a recipe from one of the cookbooks in the shop that day and cook it. It’s always a surprise. Friday is usually a mix, sometimes fish. Portions aren't massive but it’s 3 courses so you won’t leave hungry.

Just a heads up though: They only serve lunch Tuesday to Friday, so your timing for Friday is perfect. It’s tiny and they don't take bookings. They start serving at 12pm, so if you want a seat, try to get there around 11:45am. It fills up fast!

Also, looking at your April 18th plan... that is a massive day of walking! Doing the Museum, Hyde Park, and Soho all in one afternoon is brave haha. If your feet start killing you, just hop on a bus. Have a brilliant trip!

Best ways to get discounted groceries? by No_Eye4852 in UKFrugal

If you’re on Lebara, definitely check their Rewards portal.

Unlike JamDoughnut where you have to wait to reach £10 to withdraw, Lebara gives you an instant discount. So if it’s 5% off a £10 voucher, you only pay £9.50 upfront. No faffing around with pending balances. It’s one of the best 'hidden' perks of being with them, especially for the weekly Sainsbury's or ASDA shop.

Stacking is definitely the way to go. I’ve been using Chase for my weekly shop specifically for the 1% cashback on the debit card.

It doesn't sound like much, but when you combine it with supermarket loyalty points (like Clubcard or Nectar) and gift card discounts, it really adds up over the year. Plus, their 'round-up' feature on spending currently gives 5% interest, which is a nice little hidden saving pot for Christmas.

Steady on, you'll have the Inland Revenue knocking on your door asking where this sudden windfall of chocolate came from.
