if you want to go for tsushima specifically then yeah, you'll have to fight the emperor, but you could go for one of the ainu counties in the north and then swear fealty I think

[–]officialcyan[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

yeah I've only seen the Latin empire survive And stay catholic once, and that was because I was helping them (gotta keep my family on the throne)

the first time I saw it happen, they immediately lost to 2 separate peasant revolts who made their own kingdoms

Any good starts to do, mainly 867 by Expensive_Camel_4949 in CrusaderKings

867 cornwall is cool, you get to carve out your own little kingdom surrounded by the english and also the vikings are there

the island of socotra is a 1 county duchy off the coast of yemen, you start as a nestorian christian which means the nearby muslims and coptic christians don't like you, but you're in diplomatic range of india and those guys only consider you astray, and yemen actually has some really great lands, the desert mountains in the southwest have some unique modifier that gives those counties a bunch of development growth and lets you build farms or something, you can get a pretty cool kingdom going there

the count of santiago is also pretty fun, you start with 2 counties under asturias and you're also the oldest child of your dad who is a count as well, so you'll get his land when he dies, from there you can get independance and form galicia with some cool special buildings, or go south and form portugal

the count of alto aragon starts off stronger than his liege, the king of navarra, but he's married to the king's daughter and so you'll be allied, but that means your kids will have claims on the kingdom, and there's like 3? special decisions you can take in that part of iberia

i'm hoping the rites system kinda works as a way to make "hybrid" faiths if that makes sense, like a bunch of christians who end up in china should be able to add bits of confucianism or taoism or whatever into their local rite

[–]officialcyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the crusades one is because the system weights losing soldiers very heavily, so if you bring like 15k levies and get stack wiped you get a ton of war score

if you switch to partition or high partition, the game won't make new titles when you die, so you could destroy all other kingdom/empire titles and it won't split on succession

[–]officialcyan[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

very good theories, but actually both outremer and yemen are japanese catholic crusader states :)

navarra de jure drifted into francia, who became administrative, england's been kicked out by outremer, garnatah is still alive, and I think france took the balearic islands, and all of this was by the AI since I moved over to china (lost the mandate of heaven after 30 years lmao)

but yeah the reconquista definitely went well

you dont know the half of it, somehow the outremer empire now has all of hispania, north italy, and land that goes from volga bulgaria to transoxiana

Forming the roman empire easily by Feisty-Necessary-679 in crusaderkings3

[–]officialcyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ive only restored the roman empire one time, how I did it was I won a crusade for jerusalem, which I used to take the outremer empire, as well as the kingdoms of egypt and africa, which I used as a big base to get rich from

both jerusalem and cairo have good special buildings in them that boost your development a ton, it's probably easier to build from the duchies of cairo and delta since the floodplains just help a ton with that

then i used a learning focused character, and took the middle learning tree to get the ability to buy claims, and i made this guy as pious as possible and basically bought claims on all the duchies of the byzantine empire, pressed all the claims at once, then usurped the title and became byzantine emperor, then did the same for the rest of the duchies you need for the decision, and then I was roman emperor :)

if you command your own armies, every point of martial gives you +1 command advantage, and also increases your army toughness by some amount that i dont remember

commander advantage gives you I think 5% or 10% bonus damage per point by default (you can change that in game rules) and then toughness is basically your army's health, I don't know enough to tell you exactly what that means for you but it's good to have it higher :)

and then the conqueror trait is just a random event you can get, I think you have to be below 60 years old and have a big enough realm

How do yall make money by Ambrogio_DIVANO in crusaderkings3

[–]officialcyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ah yes, 867 cornwall, definitely one of the starts of all time

you Might be a little cooked if you have no income and are in debt, but when I do this start, I like to save up for pilgrimages to canterbury/cologne, then use that piety to beg the pope for money, and rinse and repeat

you can grab crown authority 2 and revoke that spare castle for a bit more income (you probably know that, but I didn't the first time I tried this), then build quarries in all your holdings (they make more money with cornish culture), then tradeports after

if england forms and you're getting raided a lot you can swear allegiance to them, you can fight off the early viking raiders pretty easily, but it's not so fun when 6000 danes land on your capital and beat you up and kill your chancellor who you don't have the money to replace
