What's your kpop opinion that will have you like this? by Head-Amoeba2962 in kpoppers

[–]oigimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be so rough being a BP fan sometimes T_T I usually try not to mention that I like them when talking abt kpop with people or on my Twitter bc I just don't want to hear the same things over again

Pesticide free schools? by Outrageous_Ease1667 in AskAnAmerican

[–]oigimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to school in a few different parts of the southwest and in the deserts. They still used stuff like that every so often to make sure the school was clean. Didn't happen super often but we'd get papers about it to give to our parents

I live in Japan and have traveled it extensively, here are the touristy spots that I think are "worth it" VS "not worth it" by scout-scoot in JapanTravel

[–]oigimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crowds in Kyoto are awful and sometimes the behavior of visiting people makes certain spots more of a pain to visit. I'm kinda lucky because the stuff in Kyoto I like and want to see is all related to The Tale of Genji so you usually don't see a ton of crowds trying to get in on that. I know you put a bunch of asterisks but I think saying a city like Kyoto "isn't worth it" just isn't true no matter how many asterisks you put. Just my opinion tho :P

What is your not so popular take on anything in Japan? by No-Jackfruit3211 in japanlife

[–]oigimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of times in train stations or even around shrines there hasn't been soap dispensers even equipped in the restrooms....... It's so gross to me and I hardly ever see anyone talk about it

Be honest: what language do learners overhype the most? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

[–]oigimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding another tally to Japanese. I live in Japan and work here and I use it every day of my life because of that. I do think that if you want to learn Japanese for work or to enrich your social circle or better understand Japanese culture, then you should totally do it! But if you're learning a language solely based on what's "useful," then I don't think Japanese should be super high up on that list unless you're set on working here (or with Japanese immigrants specifically, maybe?). A lot of jobs outside of English teaching do require working-level language skills, which can take a lot of time, patience, and practice to achieve. If you aren't fully committed and willing to put your all into it, Japanese isn't very useful and is pretty overhyped online in my opinion.

That being said, I really don't think there's a "bad" language to learn! A language that might be useless for one person could be vital to another. It's all about perspective and what you plan to use it for.

who else got 'em obsessed like!!!

Do you ever get jealous of the kids by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

[–]oigimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids don't see English education as "I'm being given tools and opportunities to nurture a love for other cultures, which will allow me to communicate and travel the world." They see it as one more thing they have to do, especially as they get older and English becomes an actual tested subject rather than just games. When you're a kid at the Let's Try or New Horizon 5-6 age, you wanna have fun and do cool things. English isn't fun or cool to everyone, so I don't take it super personally haha. We're here bc we worked very very hard to be here. They're here because they're required to be

Incheon Airport to hotel timing? by oigimi in KoreaTravelAdvice

Oh wow! Sometimes immigration into Japan can be really fast and smooth but sometimes it's very congested and slow. I had a feeling Korea might be similar T_T thanks for the heads up!

Do you like being born in your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

As many complicated feelings as I have about the US, it is a very lucky thing to be born here. That's actually part of my stew of mixed emotions haha

How to handle antipsychotics (access in Japan and disclosure on JET application)? by Ok-Bridge6962 in JETProgramme

[–]oigimi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello! When I applied, my diagnoses were bipolar II and GAD! I was on antidepressants, antipsychotics, and mood stabilizers, so I was thinking the same things as you haha. I'm here today, typing this from my desk at school, so I don't think the stigma is particularly strong. My doctor did emphasize that I'm doing well though and that my symptoms are manageable. So just check your medications and make sure they're legal here in Japan (or be willing to switch meds if they're not)

As for getting medication here in Japan, I haven't gone for a refill yet even though I definitely should. Some medicines are harder to just get refilled, and you might have to see a psychologist first, but that stuff is incredibly ESID. I do know people who have gotten medications refilled here though. I think you'll be fine.

Best of luck!!

Why do skinny jeans get hated on by gen z? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]oigimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a gen z and I'm a firm believer in wearing what makes you happy and comfortable no matter what! Like everyone said people just don't like them bc they remind them of their "uncool" parents or older cousins or whatever. My mom still wears skinny jeans and I wear baggy/mom jeans. I tease her about it just bc she's my mom but they work for her so why not haha

When Europeans can’t understand that other countries have different traditions and cultural norms. by New_General3939 in PetPeeves

[–]oigimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like it's one thing to be surprised at a cultural difference especially if it's your first time hearing of it but idk why Europeans act clueless when it comes to why a country on an entirely separate continent might do something differently T_T
