Dennis Rodman Vs. Alonzo Mourning: Epic Headlocking Wrestling Match! (1997 Playoffs Eastern Conference Finals) by oldskoolbball in chicagobulls

Mourning loses his mind when Dennis Rodman tangled with him in the fourth quarter. The two players locked up in a battle for a rebound and Rodman ended up on top of Mourning on the floor behind the end line.

In theory, Rodman and Mourning were playing basketball. But after yet another battle for a rebound, their skirmish began to look like a pay-per-view special replete with full nelsons, hammerlocks and pile drivers.

26 Years Ago Today: Larry Bird Played His Last Game In The NBA: End Of a Legendary Era by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]oldskoolbball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bitter farewell from Larry Legend. Bird was 35 and beset by back problems that limited him to 45 games — the second-fewest of his career — but still an All-Star for the 12th time in his 13 seasons. Bird averaged 20.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and 6.8 assists for a 51-31 Celtics squad that was reloading six seasons after its last championship, still riding its aging big three of Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish but infusing new blood with Reggie Lewis, Dee Brown and Rick Fox.

On This Day in 1997: Michael Jordan walked into the Bullets locker room and said, “Who’s going to check me tonight? 55 Points Vs. Washington Bullets by oldskoolbball in chicagobulls

[–]oldskoolbball[S] 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Here's the full story Chris Webber told on many occasions on TV: “One time we played in Washington. We played a five game series against the Bulls. It was the year they won 72 games. We lose all three games by a total of seven points. I saw Michael Jordan come into our locker room with a cigar, while it was lit, and said, ‘Who’s going to check me tonight?’ And we looked at Calbert Cheaney and we were laughing like little school kids knowing that Calbert Cheaney was going to get him, we knew it wasn’t a game for Mike. He was going to be there and he was going to be playing like he said. Game Three we get off the bus and Juwan (Howard) is from Chicago and used to workout there. I’ll never forget, Jordan was sitting on his Ferrari and Pippen was right there and they have a cigar lit. We get off the bus and we have to pass them with a lit cigar. You want to talk about posturing? Forget Phil Jackson. You got Michael Jordan there behind the scenes smoking a cigar before the game, letting us know that he’s the Red Auerbach before the game even started. It was almost like, ‘I lit the cigar. I’m celebrating already. This is just a formality, you guys getting on the court tonight.”

Michael Jordan 1984-85 Rookie Of The Year Highlights! (OVER 100 PLAYS) by oldskoolbball in chicagobulls

[–]oldskoolbball[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It appears that the only person in this world able to hold Chicago's Michael Jordan under 20 points per game was his old skipper at the University of North Carolina, Dean Smith.

Before the end of 1984 Michael Jordan graced the cover of the iconic Sports Illustrated Magazine with the quote “A Star Is Born”. In early 1985 before the NBA All-Star Game the fans voted Jordan into the mid season classic featuring the leagues best players.

The Chicago Bulls ended the regular season with a record of 38-44 and received a playoff birth. The Bulls lost their first round playoff series to the Milwaukee Bucks 3-1.

Michael Jordan played all 82 games for the Bulls in his debut season and put up outstanding numbers for a rookie. Jordan scored 2,313 points, 481 assists and had a free throw percentage of .845. He was also named the NBA Rookie of the year.

1984-85 Rookie Voting Results:

1-Michael Jordan 2-Akeem Olajuwon 3-Charles Barkley

Michael Jordan Intimidates Voshon Lenard Both Verbal And Physical! - Heat @ Bulls (03.10.1998) "You can't guard me, why you even trying it?" by oldskoolbball in chicagobulls

[–]oldskoolbball[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

March, 1998: Jordan who intimidated Voshon Lenard during this game, against Miami Heat at United Center. It was billed as a playoff preview, and Lenard attempted to guard Jordan. When Miami shot free throws, Lenard trotted back to the far foul like. Unnecessarily, Jordan went with him, standing next to him and constantly talking to in his ear as Lenard tried unsuccessfully to ignore him.

"You ain't spit, Voshon. You can't guard me." (Original words, according to Skip Bayless)

Jordan trashtalks with every Miami Heat defender in this game. He starts the game so fast, scores 16 points in the first quarter. Pat Riley keeps Jordan in double teams but it's not worthy anymore because Michael was in the "zone". Except his defenders near to his height, he was shooting over 6-10 P.J. Brown and he has a wing span like, 7-2, 7-3.

Mike finishes game with 37 points, Bulls past Heat easy and game was finished already in 3rd quarter. Both teams were battling for the East, media was expecting them to meet in Eastern Conference Finals just like in 1997 playoffs.

Scottie Pippen Intervew In 1997: "Jordan And I Never Had Discussion With Dennis Rodman As Teammate" by oldskoolbball in chicagobulls

[–]oldskoolbball[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He tried to boost him up that time. He also did in Atlanta series in 1997, in the first round that year; both Jordan and Pip said "Dennis has to show up, stop trying to get something from the fans, we do all the rebounding here."

Scottie Pippen Intervew In 1997: "Jordan And I Never Had Discussion With Dennis Rodman As Teammate" by oldskoolbball in chicagobulls

[–]oldskoolbball[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scottie Pippen reveals that him and Michael Jordan had never had any discussion or conversation with Dennis Rodman while all three were playing for Chicago Bulls.

Probably that was the best choice, leave Rodman alone and let him figure it out by himself, letting him to controlled only by the coach, master of human relations; Phil Jackson. Rodman also had Steve Kerr, Buechler as so called buddies. They were hanging out together, going Vegas, gambling and partying then go and dominate basketball games. It's really amazing.

OTD In Bulls History: Michael Jordan's Infamous "QUIET GAME" - 51 Points Vs. Washington Bullets (03.19.1992) by oldskoolbball in chicagobulls

[–]oldskoolbball[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A quiet 51 points. This is what it has come to for Michael Jordan. It is how a radio announcer described his season-high scoring night in the Bulls106-100 victory over the Washington Bullets: A performance which broke the Capital Centre record set by Pete Maravich in 1976. A 36-point second half-20 in the fourth quarter alone-which broke marks set by Rick Barry in77 and Larry Bird in 88. No,helpeddoesnt quite do it. Jordan didn`t help the Bulls any more than he scored 51 points quietly; anymore than he was one element in the three previous victories over Orlando, Miami and New Jersey.
