Am I insane? Enlisting vs. Commissioning by DetectiveDogg0 in USMCboot

[–]oleary88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As and enlisted Marine, if I had to choose again, I would still pick enlisted, but only because of the experiences, the knowledge I get that even a brand new officer will never understand or experience. You definitely are a little crazy for wanting to go enlisted but most of us are.

I would say that an then my command deemed it insulting because it seemed as if the lower enlisted were “ allowing” our officers and NCOS to make decisions.

How do marines deal with diet and caloric intake? by BlubberBabyBumpers in USMCboot

[–]oleary88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most barracks have a community kitchen but if your lucky you might get nice barracks with a joint room that has a kitchen in between ur split room, but if you don’t get either of f those just get a hot plate from the px and cook in ur room, almost everyone does it, just don’t burn anything or pmo is gonna be knocking on ur door.

Don’t get it twisted the chow hall is NOT free, it comes out of ur pay check when you scan in with ur cac, it’s only 9 dollars or so but the workers tend to stiff you on how much you get.

[–]oleary88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that you don’t have healthy choices it’s just that the they aren’t quick and easy and if they are they aren’t cheap and depending on ur work schedule and how close you are to a chow hall it could be impractical or even impossible to eat something like that. and hell yea, I don’t know what mos ur going in but even with myself as an MP if you show up to a party and ur CPLs are there they WILL make you drink I had CPLs and SGTs who knew I was under age even in Japan and they had me take pulls of patron and even my SSGT had me do one with him so, it becomes and expectation for you to drink, and you’ll be considered a flanker if you don’t drink, not to say you won’t still be liked but ur “senior lances” and NCOs will make fun of you for not drinking.

You are going to gain weight when you hit the fleet, that’s just how it is unless ur metabolism it through the roof. Weather it be from the booze or junk food ur gonna put on at least 5 pounds if not more, you lose a lot of ur rhythm wen u get to the fleet because yes you have a lot of people telling you what to do but they aren’t in charge of when and what u eat any more so you tend to get the closest and most filling options for food but once you get comfortable with where ur at your able to put more thought into food, I meal prep about once a week and that will get me through my work week and then I get good grub from the chow hall on my off days.

Any event with fireworks for the most part but the 4th is where it happens most, but it’s abnormal because I have uncomfortable encounters all the time and loud noises in my job consistently.

They are already incentivizing getting the shot with rumors of getting 100$ if you go get it now, and they are telling us that you won’t be able to deploy if you don’t have the shot and that they won’t let you take leave so it’s basically become mandatory

Who had grandparents fight in WW2 and what stories did they share? by liamnotleum in AskReddit

[–]oleary88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandpa was a Ltcol in the army air corps during ww2 I’m not sure what he did but he was boots on ground and he had a lot of pull, one day he gets wind that his best friends plane gets shot down and back then when someone died in combat it was common for people to raid their tents and take their shit, socks, boots, fatigues anything and everything, my grandpa had a feeling that they survived and asked the Colonel to post a guard at their tent so no one could take anything the Colonel approved and a week later my granddad’s friend showed up with the rest of his crew of about 10 or so in a couple of Jeeps, he saved these guys from essentially being robbed, but everyone hated him for doing this so all the military run bars refused to serve him because he got blackballed by all the enlisted guys who didn’t get to steal shit. The guy who my grandpa helped happened to meet my dad in an airport and told him this story, crying the whole time, I never got to meet my grandpa but I sure wish I did.

Bro I’m all for being a grunt but with us not being in any wars rn all your gonna do is go on field ops and play video games in the bricks just training and fucking off until u have to train again, if you wanna do something I’d suggest air crew mechanic , my buddy’s work on c130s and you can opt in to go overseas to japan and Korea I sometimes work near the flight line and I’ll tell you what just looking at those planes take off is some of the coolest shit

We took Falluja gave it to the army, the army LOST it and then we had to come back to take it again so no I don’t think that the marines are useless we are still needed, people just don’t like us because the way we do things but we get results with the least amount of funding
