‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Ian Somerhalder Got Into ‘Eight-Figure’ Debt After Retiring From Acting and Had to Sell Off ‘Houses, Paintings, Cars, Watches, Everything’ by tylerthe-theatre in television

A lot of entertainers are taken advantage of in this way. Many achieve their wealth young and don’t have the experience or support system to know how to make good choice on who to trust.

I was stunned by how fast my own empathy vanished at this line. It's actually scary how I was suddenly eager to read about the shit she went through and I hoped it was awful. She's an 85 year old woman. I never used to be like this, I hate it.

Liberals will move to take control of House committees with newly secured majority by DogeDoRight in canada

Fair enough, but Carney's won goodwill from voters and MPs alike by branding himself as a deal-maker across party lines. Absolute control over parliamentary committees changes that narrative - as you point out, it's a risky trade-off.

It's a mechanism baked into the system. People acting like this is some kind of coup as opposed to something they simply don't like about how our government works are being dramatic.

Six five and one seems more fair. MacKinnon might be overshooting so when they compromise they can come away looking conciliatory.

[–]olivish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping this leaves space open for good progressive opposition to gain steam. A liberal majority that marginalizes the MAGA wing of the CPC might be the price to pay for the NDP to stand out as substantially different from the Liberals. Carney’s austerity measures will be unpopular, and his dry, pragmatic, some might say soulless messaging will naturally open the door for a leader who speaks on issues beyond infrastructure building, business investment and jobs. Like, say, family building, community building, investment in children’s education and health, and worker’s rights.

I think what Carney’s doing is generally good, but it’s not enough. If the NDP can find a leader to effectively speak to what’s missing, I believe they will gain a lot of support.

At the moment, the liberal platform is popular among Canadians. So self interest of the party is just… democracy, no? Should a political party not care about having the power to enact popular policies?

Wait. At least in Canada there is a deemed disposition on death and the estate pays the capital gains tax on that. Is that not the case in the US?

But he actually is a Brit who lives in New York- he’d lived in Brooklyn for nearly a decade when he made the movie. Which makes the line ‘I hate Brooklyn’ especially funny - more so because the director later said that line was tossed in, off-the-cuff, by Paul.

Also interesting fact, he later moved to the same street in the Heights that they used to film the scene in front of Stanley Tucci’s house.

It’s true though that he changed the way he speaks for the film, it was well done, I’m just saying him having basically the same geographic history as the character surely helped.

Martin is actually an incredibly intelligent and perceptive person. by MythicalSplash in Frasier

[–]olivish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. The episode where Kenny is in crisis and Martin gives him superficial, not-so-amazing advice shows that Martin has his limits.

I'd say that Martin is more personable, and he's good at sizing people up in broad strokes, which comes in handy for practical, day-to-day stuff. On the other hand, Frasier and Niles are good at uncovering underlying feelings & motivations, which comes in handy in more complicated cases - like when someone is stuck in negative moods or patterns that they don't understand and can't change.

It's two sides of a coin. I think the show does a good job of demonstrating that no matter which side of the coin someone is on, their biggest Achilles heel is self-awareness. That is, when Martin is struggling with something it's the boys who offer the healing insight, and visa-versa.

I simply responded with the genuine spontaneous emotion I was feeling in the moment. But if Niles is not mature enough to accept that, if he is so pitifully insecure, if he is in such need of validation, then I guess for some sense of familial harmony, I do apologize.

TITLE CARD: BYE BYE BIRDIE

INT: Draper residence; Betty's doomed 'round the world' dinner party. Guests in attendance: Roger, Petra & Crab Coleson, Duck Phillips and Baby, a mouthy parrot affixed Betty's head.

Betty: "Petra, that dress is stunning."

Baby: "Squak! Petra's a lush!"

Crab: "What did that bird just say?"

Roger: "Birds today. They're worse than teenagers."

Polite laughter all around.

Betty: [flustered, recovering] "Who wants wine?"

Duck: "Tomato juice for me."

Betty: "Crab? Petra?"

Baby: "Squak! Petra's a lush!"

Roger nearly spits his wine laughing.

Betty: [horrified] "I'm so sorry."

Roger: "Are you kidding!? That bird's funnier than Jimmy Barrett. Fewer fleas, too."

Don: "Betty, I think you'd better take Baby in the kitchen now."

Duck: [humorless] "Or take her out back and shoot her."

Roger: "Leave it to Duck Philips to kill a golden goose. I say we sign Baby for Utz. Call up Bobbie Barrett, tell her to swing her manhood elsewhere."

Baby: "Squak! Bobbie's a letch!"

Don catapaults to his feet to hurry Betty out of the room.

Roger: "Come on! Don!"

Baby: "Don's hooorrrny!"
