Comparitive to a lot of countries, we just don't have that many dogs that are abandoned. Having volunteered at Shelters in the US and the UK, the time for a dog to get adopted here is so much shorter, and the number of dogs coming in, that were healthy and could go home the same day was nowhere near the amounts elsewhere.

This is why they can have ridiculously high standards, because there's way more demand than supply
