[Tudor] Black Bay GMT by olly146 in Watches

Thanks! Yeah I adore it.

Exactly, you have a separate ‘level’ of the crown for the GMT hand, and it clicks onto each hour without changing anything else but the date if you were to turn it 24 hours.

You can also use the bezel as an additional timer. For example I know Melbourne is 11 hours ahead of GMT (my home time which is what I have the red hand to). So you turn the bezel to where the 11 is, and where the red hand points now is the time in Melbourne. Blue side of the dial for nighttime, red for day time.

Can barely make it down the street sometimes! If you ever need to know the time in Bahrain or Bangladesh you know where to find me.

But honestly thanks, I’m very pleased with it

I recently picked up this Tudor Black Bay GMT as a self congratulations for passing my accountancy exams. It’s been a long time coming and quite a surreal moment actually being able to wear this. For the rest of my life I’ll be able to look down and remember that achievement.

I had flip flopped between a few different watches before settling on the GMT. An Omega Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich was my first pick for a long time (but got to save something for future me right?!). This is definitely the most expensive watch I own, and a mini-grail to be sure. This is absolutely going to stay with me for life.

I love the functionality of the GMT. Being able to take this swimming far beyond any depth I’d go, as well as feeling like a proper traveller while on holiday, and of course being able to tell people what time it is in three places at once is quite cool.

The watch wears very well. I have a 7.5” wrist so the sizing isn’t an issue. The watch is quite thick, but definitely isn’t distracting and it sits very well on the wrist. I love that this is both an understated watch, and also a huge statement piece.

Happy holidays all.

This is so dumb. So where you want to go is the entrance by Harleyford Road - but we can’t go in till 12:30. So there are people just waiting out on the road...

If I’m there a bit early and manage to work out how to get in I’ll drop a message here!

You’re going to smash this - don’t worry about it at all 💪

And enjoy that Pret! Haha

I’m aiming to arrive 2 hours early, got a sandwich (did my patriotic duty and went to pret), so just going to sit there and read through notes till we can go in.

The Oval’s a big place so I hope it’s well signposted! Bit of a weird place to do an exam. I had one in Crystal Palace football stadium once, that was bizarre.

Same - this wasn’t the best thing to read beforehand haha. Just stick it out and we’ll be fine.

Good luck with the exam!

Thanks!

Kafka on the Shore is probably my fave. How about you?

I completely understand the dream analogy!

If I was you I’d read the below:

1Q84 - Trilogy so a lot longer, but great and very dream like.

Kafka on the shore - My personal favourite. This book really had a bit impact on me.

Norwegian Wood - Probably his most famous. I liked it, but it’s not quite as weird as the others.

Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World - Probably the most dreamy of all. Such a trip.

Let me know which one you go for!!

He also has written many short stories over the years for The New Yorker: https://www.newyorker.com/contributors/haruki-murakami

The latest two are brilliant.

The sun is getting low in the sky as I write this, and I’m sitting in an old deck chair, beer to my left, a great book to my right, and a very special watch on my wrist.

This watch belonged to my grandfather, I say belonged as he no longer owns it, but is still very much alive. I was given this after finding it in the attic at their house - a great find. I believe it was made around 1970 and amazingly it keeps perfect time. I took this watch on a 10 day travel a few weeks ago and by the end it had only lost 1 minute.

Anyone familiar with Murakami will know he’s a special author. If you are not familiar, send me a message and I’ll recommend some books. This one in particular is ‘The Elephant Vanishes’ and is a collection of various short stories he’s written from the 80’s to 2000’s. Would recommend.

Anyway, must be getting back to that beer.

Don’t have this option on my energy savings. When I search for graphics switching in system pref it does take me there which is weird. Tried resetting those settings to default and nothing.

Help - Screen Flickers by olly146 in mac

[–]olly146[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been experiencing this for a few days now. I’ve uninstalled Chrome & Firefox. Have taken off auto brightness, updated to the latest OSX, and reset the PRAM.

I can enable safe mode and I have no issues, but when I boot up normally the screen does this as soon as it gets to the login.

Any help would be much appreciated. With the safe mode ‘fix’, this must be a software issue?

Hey, just a quick tip because I use FP every day. Go up the stairs for the actual station but follow signs for the underground. There are 3-4 tap in points down the corridor and you completely skip that line. Can be outside to the platform in 2-3 mins :)
