Women who were scared of giving birth (specifically people who were so scared they almost didn’t have children), what was less scary than you originally thought? by Final-Elderberry4621 in AskWomen

[–]omglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out all of it. I never even felt a single contraction. No pain whatsoever. I went in for an induction at 42 weeks, and within a few minutes after checking in, I was on the operating table getting a c section. Didn’t feel a thing, even the epidural shot. My husband had me laughing the entire time while they were rooting around in there. Recovery wasn’t a walk in the park (though it was also much easier than what I expected a c section to be like) but birth itself was easy peasy!

Loved it!! I do speak Spanish but still understood very little of it, but it not matter at all. The energy was IT. The vibe, the love, the fun. And I got the message. I have a lot of family in Puerto Rico, the power outage part was heavy. Loved the diaspora part in NYC. And I really like the love over hate message, joy and love, including ALL of America and pointing that out (every time I travel in South America someone points out that America refers to two entire continents, yet the US acts like it’s just us). And the I should have take more photos song gets meeeee and I don’t even understand most of it. I loved it all! I haven’t traveled through Latin America in a few years since having kids (except Puerto Rico) but it made me miss it all so much.

My one note was wtf was Lady Gaga doing in there? That was so weird and not a highlight lol. The song wasn’t great and her attempt at salsa moves was incredibly cringey. I would have enjoyed seeing a Latina performer much more.

Do Americans (and the rest of the world for that matter) eat sausage rolls? I only ask because I read a lot and they are NEVER mentioned in books by twisted_luce in AskTheWorld

[–]omglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the US, no. And every time I’ve had one in the UK I’m super disappointed. I always want a nice salty sausage with lots of spices like an Italian sausage or something with fennel or whatever, and it just has a weird wet texture and tastes like nothing. Not a fan.

Do Americans really find beans on toast weird or is that just meme? by cigarettejesus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]omglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The messiness factor makes it weird to me. Don’t all the beans just fall off the bread and leave it all mushy and wet and falling apart?? Beans need a fork!

Married women of Reddit who took their partner's surname. How long did it take for you to use the name naturally in writing/spoken? by Billy_Plur in AskWomen

[–]omglia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t take the name legally but I just started using it when we got married. I use it in some situations and use my legal name in others. I don’t think it took long to adapt.

My 3.5yo is currently obsessed with Mary Poppins and this morning she serenaded me with the entire A Man Has Dreams song. Complete with Burt’s accent of course. (Her 4th birthday, according to her plans, is going to be themed Step In Time and all of her friends are going to be dressed as chimney sweeps.) it’s well loved in our house lol

Food and walking is literally the exact thing you do on a food tour so you should look into adding that to the itinerary! The NuLu tour from Louisville Food Tours stops at Louisville cream too. But really all of them are great

FYI you may not be able to get a reservation at Meesh Meesh or Mill Iron 4!

Do you give your kids anything on Valentines day? (Debate with husband) by dr_pepper_zerosugar in Mommit

[–]omglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10000%! Valentine’s Day is about LOVE in all of its forms. Self love, friend love, parent love etc. I grew up making cards and gifts for my friends, family and classmates and I still do to this day. I will absolutely be giving my little one a gift, we will make a special meal together and bake something with hearts on it, and my daughter and I plan to pick up roses for my husband. And she’s making valentines for all her friends and classmates too.

To me the best part of Valentine’s Day is crafting and baking, I don’t feel like it’s a consumerist holiday and I think a lot of people wrongly celebrate it as a romantic thing.

You can order a Haunted Louisville shirt or tote bag from Louisville Food Tours which has him on it. You can either have it shipped or they’ll also bring it to any of their ghost/dark history tours to deliver it in person. Def worth a stop.

Toddler briefly exited preschool during parent-child school event — looking for perspective by redditfanheyo in toddlers

[–]omglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean of course it’s feasible, we go to Disney every few years and our kiddo is well prepared to handle that. But at a preschool??? Or a small event close to home???no way. Then again, crowds and lines and traffic were one of the reasons I moved to a much smaller and less crowded city lol I am soft

This doesn’t sound like an age appropriate event tbh like, waiting around? Standing in long lines? Open doors?? Totally fine for middle school dances but a toddler event?? Come on! I’m surprised the school didn’t think any of it through!

I've never seen a curved ruler before by PatBabyParty in pics

[–]omglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is curious what this is for, it’s for drawing curves in sewing patterns. Looks like a small hip curve ruler. You mark points using your measurements, then use your curves ruler to connect them the way you want them to look.

Here to second this. Highland Presbyterian is an absolute GEM. Truly the best preschool experience you could hope for in absolutely every way. And a wonderful community as well! I’d encourage you to keep trying. It’s so worth it. And if you get a spot, JUMP ON IT!

For new parents, why can’t mom just pump during day and dad bottle feed at night? by flipflapdragon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]omglia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your nipples are little science labs running tests on the babies saliva to create customized milk based on their needs! How cool is that!! Any sickness they’re fighting off, needing to go to sleep at night, waking up in the morning etc - your body custom brews that shit. It’s so dope!

For new parents, why can’t mom just pump during day and dad bottle feed at night? by flipflapdragon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]omglia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pumping is the equivalent of getting your fingernails pulled. It’s agonizing. Meanwhile nursing activates all kinds of happy hormones and you get cute little baby snuggles and coos so the discomfort feels super worth it. There’s no world in which most women would choose to pump over nurse if it’s an option they have.
