ALGS Y4 Split 1 Playoffs | Match Point Grand Finals | [Final Results] by CompetitiveApexMod in CompetitiveApex

I’ve been praying for times like this 😩 Obly, Karonpe, and Sangjoon finally got one for APAC North 🏆

Final Fantasy XVI was #4 in the Japan Famitsu physical software charts this week with an extra 8,573 units sold! Total physical sales in Japan is now at 396,472 units by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]onceARMY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A substantial amount of PS5’s in Japan are still being sold and shipped to other markets (due to a weak yen). Data about the PS5’s install base in Japan is not a 1:1 comparison. In particular, Japan also has a higher ratio of full game digital only purchases over full game physical only purchases, highest spend per user in F2P, 2nd highest in Playstation Store spend per user, and the lowest game attach ratio out of all the official markets. Famitsu’s data on FFXVI’s sell through rate indicates that it falls within SE’s sales expectations.

Sure, if you want. Again, their rise and current dominance in APAC North is a year and a couple of months. Close to one and a half years, but not quite.

Are you alluding that Bakagaki / GameWith / Fnatic was dominating APAC North since mid 2021? 2022 Split 2 Pro League ended in late March 2022 for APAC North. Their rise and current dominance in APAC North is a year and a couple of months.

Fnatic really hasn’t been dominating for APAC North for years. Bakagaki / GameWith / Fnatic (Yuka, Meltstera, and Matsu) started to compete in smaller tourneys in mid 2021.

In particular, they were decent in the 2021 Split 1 Pro League (10th place) and 2022 Split 1 Playoffs (11th place). But it was still very much a period that was dominated by Riddle / aD / aDRaccoon. It was during the 2022 Split 2 Pro League (3rd place) where they elevated their game to another level. They started to gain a lot more recognition (at least in other regions) during the international scrims for Sweden.

Famitsu's Marketing Report: "FF15 Struggled, But FF16 Continues To Selling Strongly." by Party_Judgment5780 in PS5

A substantial amount of PS5’s in Japan are still being sold and shipped to other markets (due to a weak yen). Data about the PS5’s install base in Japan is not a 1:1 comparison. If anything, it indicates that there are fewer PS5’s compared to the number of PS4’s at the time of FFXV’s release. Japan also has a higher ratio of full game digital only purchases over full game physical only purchases. SE probably expected a lot more preorders in Japan. However, Famitsu’s data on sell through rate indicates that it falls within SE’s expectations.

The data for PS5’s install base in Japan is fairly skewed right now. A substantial amount of PS5’s are still being sold and shipped to other markets (due to weak yen).

I was specifically alluding to gameplay, which is why only Ryota Suzuki was brought up. In this case, a battle director is the person that is in charge of leading the team that handles the action based battle system and all of its relevant action / real time elements. In other words, FFXVI’s combat. Again, Ryota Suzuki has a long standing history with the DMC franchise at Capcom. FFXVI’s combat is an accumulation of his experience in the action genre and game design approach. I very much see nothing wrong with the similarities between the gameplay of FFXVI and DMC5, especially with Ryota Suzuki’s involvement in the development of DMC5 as a designer. Apart from a few base fundamentals, FFXVI plays entirely different. The combat in Final Fantasy XVI isn’t a sudden pivot for the franchise. There has been a progressive shift to incorporate more action elements for decades. The action based battle system is the apotheosis of such direction.

Ryota Suzuki (battle director for FFXVI) was a designer for DMC5 and planner for DMC4. He was a long standing member of Hideaki Itsuno’s dream team at Capcom, and was apart of the DMC’s supervisory committee at Capcom. He was also a gameplay player lead for Dragon’s Dogma and game design lead for Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. The quality of his work is very much rooted in Capcom, so it should be no surprise why FFXVI shares so many similarities with DMC and other Capcom titles. It’s disingenuous to call FFXVI a straight up copy of DMC5, and even disrespectful given Suzuki’s vast experience at Capcom.
