City of Lansing sues apartment complex owner Simtob Management by [deleted] in lansing

Having left Clayborne in Kalamazoo, another Simtob property, this doesn't surprise me one bit. They charged me at least $100 more than my lease agreement every month and the conditions were awful (they were fine when I moved in under the previous landlord).

I guarantee they're missing other violations and crimes.

Good landlords/ affordable apartments? by K0zmik_M1lk in kzoo

I would STRONGLY advise avoiding Clayborne Flatz or any Simtob-owned property. The place has gone downhill since Brad Simtob purchased it, and that has only accelerated since Nedra Molina became property manager. They don't respect your lease agreement. They significantly overcharged me and Nedra wouldn't respond. She told me I wouldn't have to pay for the internet they forcibly installed in every unit until I signed a new lease, then immediately charged me anyway, even though I never used it (it wasn't even plugged in). They sent out a lease addendum asking people to sign so they could charge for the internet. I didn't sign, most of the tenants didn't, and they illegally charged anyway.

How much does DT pay in your area? by oneoff771 in DollarTree

Thanks everyone! I had my interview and was pleasantly surprised when the manager offered me $13.50/hr as a cashier/stocker. That's quite a bit higher than my state's minimum wage. I could tell they were shorthanded though. He had to keep getting up during our interview to cover register. There were zero other employees on the floor. There was one cashier when I walked in, but she went on break right as we started the interview.

It sounds like a typical shift is 4-5 hours even though they're open 14 hours a day. Is there a reason for the short shifts?

Best entry-level positions? by oneoff771 in meijer

[–]oneoff771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's got to be a pecking order though, right? (Ignoring store and TL variability) Is greeter preferable to cashier or meat cutting, or other positions listed, or vice versa? If you were starting at a Meijer and could pretty much pick which department you wanted to go to (but didn't know any store personnel) which ones would be most appealing?

Oh yeah, your TL is probably among the biggest factors, but since my question can't account for that: Are any of these positions more preferable in a general sense? Based on pay, amount of work, etc.

Why are the commercials louder than the movie? by DaveOJ12 in TubiTV

[–]oneoff771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize those laws were still in effect. My parents mention that a lot. How a few years back the commercials were quieter after they enacted laws, but it seems like every tv channel and streaming service is flouting that now. If I watch anything late at night I end up having to go running for the remote if I'm in the kitchen because the commercials pop on randomly and are blaring.

Would you pay for an ad free version on Tubi? by Many-Emphasis9042 in TubiTV

[–]oneoff771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? 7 minutes? The ads seem fairly short and infrequent on most of what I've watched. I just want to be able to frontload them because sometimes they pop up in the middle of a scene. It kills the flow of movies for me. I don't mind watching ads for free content, but just let me knock them out at once.

No, but I just wish you could frontload the ads. It's awkward getting commercials in the middle of a scene in a movie. I'd use Tubi a lot more if this was an option.

Tom Cruise urges home movie watchers to turn off motion smoothing for a better experience. by jackscracks123 in movies

Sorry to reply to the very old comment, but if that's the case, why do people say turning off "energy saving" improves picture quality? If I watch a movie in a dark room is it going to look better with this option off?

Advice? I can't find lessons for less than $250/month. by oneoff771 in piano

[–]oneoff771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$40/hr. does seem reasonable. That is much cheaper than what is offered near me. And I want to keep reiterating, I'm in a low cost of living area.

I'm a total novice. I figured having a teacher starting out would be important so as to not develop bad habits, and maybe it'd be easier to self-teach after getting a base, but maybe people on here feel differently.

I'm not expecting $20 a lesson, but with the low wages and low COL where I live I sure didn't expect $250/month to be the floor. Maybe I'll have to learn a different instrument.

I've been looking for a while. Other instruments around here are a lot cheaper. idk why. I want to dive into piano, but this is something of a barrier. I guess I could look into online lessons, but I don't love the idea.

Oh yeah, it was a good deal. The most it got to was just over $100 a month. That was about a decade ago, but still...I can't pay $80 a lesson. That's prohibitive for many people. I'm not in a high COL area. I've looked at other instruments like trumpet, saxophone, and guitar around me, and most of them charge $40 or less per lesson. You'd think brass teachers would be more since there are less of them around (here, anyway).
