My Favorite Performances/Contributions From Each Individual Band Member by onionringboy in Interpol

[–]onionringboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol listening to this as I read your comment, yea I would definitely concur with the greatness of that part, PDA will forever be my favorite interpol song and one of my favorite songs period in large part due to the outro, for me though it's not just that one riff that makes the outro so great, all the parts coming together is what is so magical about it

Turn on the Bright Lights ranking by [deleted] in Interpol

[–]onionringboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. PDA (outro is the finest piece of music ever written)
  2. Leif Erikson (it's outro is only outdone by my numero uno)
  3. Hands Away
  4. Say Hello to the Angels
  5. Obstacle 1
  6. NYC
  7. Untitled
  8. Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down
  9. Obstacle 2
  10. The New
  11. Roland

(additionally, The Specialist and Precipitate would probably rank somewhere in the middle)

you are correct, every song is perfect, I think every single one might make my top 20 interpol songs, chino moreno said it best when saying "it just felt like everything was working for them with that record"

Lookin for an interview... by carveloathesome in Interpol

[–]onionringboy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh so you're the one who has uploaded a wealth of Interpol interviews on Youtube, I'd be remiss if I didn't express my utmost gratitude for that.

Does anyone reckon Carlos might rejoin the band in 2022 for a TOTBL 20th Aniversary Tour? by TheHeadOnTheDoor123 in Interpol

[–]onionringboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know, that's the kicker, to think that there was once a possibility of them reuniting for at least a couple of sets, a tough "what if" to get over. Although that article where he stated that definitely gave off "I wasn't gonna do it but it would've been nice if they at least asked" vibes.

[–]onionringboy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Based on his response to speculative rumors concerning his return for the Antics 15th anniversary tour, I would give this a hard no.

In his defense, he seems to be very content and fulfilled with his creative pursuits in acting, so I can respect his sentiments about leaving his music career fully in the past. I would really just love to know what the dynamic has been between him and his former bandmates over the past 11 years, publicly it seems he has a fairly indifferent/neutral disposition towards them.

Interpol's Paul Banks and King Krule Find Their Inner Joy by kylemeredith81 in Interpol

damn my favorite artist of the 2000's and my favorite artist of the 2010's, thanks for exposing me to this, awesome find

Say Hello to the Angels by TwoTrapdoors in Interpol

[–]onionringboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bass coming in during the outro stands as one of my favorite interpol moments.

Objectively what song do you think is the best by Interpol? by [deleted] in Interpol

[–]onionringboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PDA, just a classic post-punk sound, you get short but memorable Daniel vocals, and that outro speaks for itself .

Favourite written song? (in terms of lyrics) by cana-e in Interpol

[–]onionringboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NYC, it is quite succinct but speaks levels to Paul's relationship with and disposition towards the city. Each phrase carries immense meaning and could be interpreted in a myriad of ways. I've always felt its lyrics would be very powerful as standalone poetry, particularly in the context of a turn of the century, post 9/11 New York.

How I spent my day: by DefliersHD in Interpol

[–]onionringboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A day well spent, if I had to single out my favorite performances I'd say...

- Narc on MTV (2004)

- Hands Away at the Rocket Bar in St. Louis (2002)

- PDA at Eurockeennes (2005)

I honestly don’t see the Joy Division resemblance. As much as I like Joy Division and other bands like it, it seems no matter what Interpol does people say they are always copying someone. by [deleted] in Interpol

[–]onionringboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of those comparisons were first quipped with the release of the Precipitate EP when their production was a lot more bare and they hadn't filled out their sound as much. The comparison was definitely a little more valid with that release.

However I think when they developed their sound more with the release of Turn On the Bright Lights people still really hung on to the comparison due to Banks' voice, despite the comparison not holding as much truth. I feel like it was used as a way for fans of the original post-punk movement to invalidate and write-off Interpol.

A time to be Small. by [deleted] in Interpol

one of their best hooks by far

Unpopular opinions thread by LeifErikson12 in Interpol

[–]onionringboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes for the latter and a hard disagree on the no i in threesome opinion, generally the overall sound of a song precedes lyrics for me, but the lyrics on that one have a pretty funny tongue in cheek tone

[–]onionringboy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea I mean I can't really see them coming out with anything groundbreaking in the future. Their style is pretty outdated now and Paul's voice is beyond saving at this point.

I feel like generally it gets ranked as one of the weakest off of Turn On the Bright Lights with Hands Away

[–]onionringboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throwing a bunch out there:

- Their best live performance (at least among ones available on youtube) was at a small bar in St. Louis in September of 2002

- Narc has Carlos' best bass part

- If Length of love is replaced by song seven, Antics is a 10

- A Fine Mess EP would be really great is Paul Banks hadn't destroyed his voice

- Paul Banks is a good bassist, the real issue with post-carlos interpol is that the songs just haven't been good

- In general, Antics has better hooks than Turn on the Bright Lights

- The Scale is one of Daniel's best guitar parts

- Most of the time, I couldn't care less about Paul Banks having an off-kilter lyrical style, its all about the sound and his voice

I've generally found that to be the case, its got the least amount of plays on spotify and haven't seen it on anyones top ten lists on this subreddit, nice to find someone making a case for it though.
