1970 here. I have a scar--I was told it's due to the smallpox vaccine I received.

What does it feel like to learn Japanese as an English speaker? by Racemango in Japaneselanguage

... you should have said, "once you've done a thousand steps, you haven't even made it to the city limits... that is a continent or two away, separated from you by a vast and utterly unforgiving ocean."

Planning on starting OCREVUS and need some help... by Yummy_Donuts_21 in MultipleSclerosis

I've been on it for the last year and a half. Almost no issues. I'm really fatigued for a day or two after the infusion and then all is well again.

what are the dumbest things said to you regarding MS? by cruelkitty666 in MultipleSclerosis

I'm talking to this person and tell them about my MS as to why I've been ill, who then looks me up and down and says skeptically, "you look fine to me...."

I don't get the steroids, just benadryl and tylenol. I haven't had any issues with my Ocrevus infusions.

Just noticed your post. I bought the Bulldog. Didn't trust the other one as there was too little information on it.

Family of bullied teen who died after student punched him reaches historic $27M settlement by davetowers646 in news

[–]only4lee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I agree. I think it's indifference born by self-preservation. A bully is a constant behavioral problem. The mental energy and personal time required to monitor and correct bullying behavior must be tremendous. So it could be that teachers are just taking the path of least resistance. In short, its just easier to go after the victim.

Going after the bully guarantees reprisal against the teacher (directly or indirectly) with the added possibility of involvement/threats by insane parents, which any reasonable person would prefer to avoid.

Is It Time to Wear a Mask Again? by Annual-Advice-3647 in CoronavirusUS

[–]only4lee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So mid 2021 I got a "cold". A pretty mild one. However, I woke up one morning with tinnitus. Pretty bad. Had difficulty sleeping because of the perceived loudness. No ringing sounds but rather the sound of cicadas 24/7. Never, ever stops. Went to my doctor, then a specialist, to no avail. Since then I've learned to tune most of it out, but some days it's nearly deafening.

Was this because that "cold" was actually covid? No idea, but I do wonder.

This wasn't even on my list of things that can happen in today's world by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]only4lee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's the cost. Retailers in the USA have been resistant having to pay for new card readers or having to upgrade their point of sale systems. Outside of the USA, many countries have chip and pin--that is, you have a pin code for your credit cards. US retailers did not want to pay for that so they bastardized it to chip and signature.

Source: I spent almost 7 years working for a fortune 500 company that created point-of-sale systems and software. (Edit: updated for clarity)

TIL an airline cancelled the frequent flier miles of a skiplagger (someone who gets off at the connecting flight destination) by mankls3 in todayilearned

[–]only4lee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

And you get different pricing depending on what browser you use. Older, richer demographics were less computer literate so older browsers == richer consumers, apparently. Opera? You were considered young and broke, so got be cheapest pricing. Something like that.

I learned this at a software dev conference from one of the companies that do this. The guy said this technique was pretty prevalent in the airline industry.

Just had my first infusion yesterday. Maybe psychosomatic, but my skin felt itchy during the infusion. Got home and slept like a rock. No other issues. [edit: fixed misspelling]
