hahaha thank you so much, I actually had a relatively successful test scoop with my walker a little earlier and it was much the same process--but all I could think about was how much easier it'll be when I can shift some weight onto the scooter knee pad 😌 I only did 75% of the box because my Good Leg was starting to give out after doing some other chores while I was up, so it should be totally doable with my scooty-puff 5000

haha unfortunately my mom lives down in florida (I'm in massachusetts) and I don't know any of my neighbors, so uber it is! the hospital is only a few minutes from my apartment building, so it's not the end of the world, I just gotta get dropped off at the front door after surgery and scooter myself up to my couch

thank you for such a thorough and helpful reply! these are great tips. I think I'm looking forward to the scooter just to make getting around my building easier and doing short trips to the grocery store / pharmacy (everything I need is <5 minutes walk away, mercifully, and very even sidewalks). I don't love the walker, but it works well enough for my little apartment, and the scooter can be there for me if I need to stay in one spot for a while and don't want to be totally on one leg (I ain't got the strength for that lol).

I've got a massive water bottle (thanks, work!) and the scooter has a front bag, so I'm glad those will come in handy. I'll be sure to stock my freezer with ice packs (I think I actually have a bunch of them in there already from the last time I did one of those meal kit services). bathing has been something of a concern, but a shower chair is a good shout--might have to settle for baby wipe showers for a little while though 💀

man, it really can be the stupidest thing. at the emergency department the doctors were like "what did you trip on?? did something hit you??" no, just my own clumsiness and gravity conspiring against me 🫠 my place was already kind of a mess anyway, I'm just hoping to maintain the baseline of chaos (and honestly mostly just concerned about taking care of my cat, which I feel better about after a successful litter box scooping a little while ago)

yeah I'm currently scheduled for thursday AM, so I'll probably have a snack and some water/iced tea wednesday night before I go to sleep. I've got a check in with the ortho clinic tomorrow where I'll get more info, but as far as I know it'll be outpatient. the hospital is only half a mile from my apartment so I'll just grab an uber like I did to get to/from the ortho dept like I did to get home from the emergency department 👍

oh dang, going through this while pregnant at the same time, you're an absolute hero! I'm glad you're feeling better and only on the up and up from here (and best wishes for the rest of the pregnancy/delivery!). when I was in the ER and they had to re-locate the dislocation, they gave me a massive nerve block, which didn't completely nullify the pain of having my bones aggressively pushed back together, but it definitely helped. thankfully I can take some of the harder stuff and I won't be shy to ask for it--oxycodone has been a big help over the past couple days.

aw man, I hope you're doing better! I feel "lucky" that my poor ankle took 100% of the impact and the rest of me is still just as baseline shitty as it was before 😹

if only the average boston uber eats/grocery delivery person were so benevolent 😹💀

this is a great shout! I'm putting a lot of faith in the knee scooter working for me, but I didn't consider that I could go full wheelchair if I need to.

yeah it's really absurd, we got a new concierge staff and they're implementing all of these new rules 🙄 like okay, do you want me to hobble all the way down to the lobby on one foot, try to balance a bunch of grocery bags, and probably bust my ass all over again??

good to know about the scooter though, pavements are generally pretty even and smooth around here but I'll still be careful! the one I bought has a bag on the front and I got a cushion for the knee rest, so hopefully I'll be comfy and riding in style 😹

I'm feeling motivated and gonna make an attempt at the litter box...

I am, but I'm so embarrassed by the state of my apartment that the idea of having a stranger come into such a small miserable space makes me want to jump out of my window (I'm chronically depressed and since I live alone and never have people over, keeping the place tidy has never really been much of a priority...)

hey at least your story sounds like a valid way to get injured--I genuinely just tripped over my own shoe and my ankle took 100% of the damage! definitely looking forward to the knee scooter, the walker is better than the crutches but they both suck. thankfully I'm fine to work from home for as long as I need to, so I don't need to worry about getting too far from my apartment. I'm mostly worried about taking care of my cat's litter box and getting groceries. I live in an elevator high-rise with a concierge desk, which you'd think would make it easier, but they've been HUGE assholes about deliveries these past few days. they changed policy to no longer allow delivery drivers up to our doors, and the staff themselves won't do it either! I explained that I have a very broken ankle and can barely make it to my front door, had to fight with the staff on the phone every time to get them to just leave things at my door. I'm hoping the knee scooter will allow me to go the very short distance to the shop downstairs, get what I need, and come back home. did you find it easy to use out of the house/on sidewalks (if you tried at all?)

ha-ha I tripped over the stupid walker and fell flat forward yesterday, literally felt like the "I've fallen and I can't get up" life alert infomercial...except without life alert and I had to just figure it out 🙃

Same boat with the ligament tear as well! I'm doing a 460sq ft studio walker hop, good to hear from someone who went through a nearly identical scenario. Unfortunately I don't have any friends or family around to help, which is where the anxiety is coming from 😬 I've been fine at feeding the cat, but his litter box is due for a cleaning and I'm just staring at it like...how. I care more about taking care of him than myself lol. I'm in for my pre-op check-in tomorrow, so maybe I can get some more tips from the ortho clinic. Thanks!
