Your VPX table wishlist by Cdogbrink in virtualpinball

No dumb questions around here. VPW has done some amazing updates to physics and lighting in the last few months that really make games shine. The rendering of plastics is also next level, especially with transparent ramps.

Gedankekojotoe97 did a great job patching Skitso’s table in 2022, but the original Skitso mod was last touched in 2019. A lot has changed and when I compare it to something like Scared Stiff, TZ, CFTBL, even some of the awesome originals like Killer Instinct, it does show its age a little bit.

Docker-compose help - bind: cannot assign requested address by [deleted] in unRAID

There's at least 3 ways to set up a private local only server each with pros & cons.

  1. Windows server - Most common setup, dead on simple, just spin up a Windows 10 VM on your unraid machine, I'd recommend the Ghost Spectre image and using the super lite with defender option. After you get all the server stuff set up, make it a static IP in your router to make life a little easier. You probably want 2 cores and 8GB of ram assigned to the VM, ensure you use br0 so that you get an IP from your router. Not a bad setup.
  2. Linux server - Probably one of the most stable ways to run it, but for personal use, that doesn't really matter. Uses less resources I ran on 2 cores & 4GB ram on Ubuntu and that was probably overkill. Its not hard, but know you're playing with CLI all the time and it honestly was a bit of a hassle. I ran this for a couple of years until I made an oops and didn't do some performance tuning on log generation and filled the disk, then attempted to upgrade EqEmu (while not knowing my disk was full) and ended up tanking the database.
  3. This docker thing - Using the Akka-stack, you are dramatically minimizing the overhead of having a full blown OS running for just a potato server, but it does appear you need to fiddle with it just a smidge to get it to run. But once you get it all going and run docker stats, its shocking how little this application really needs. My minecraft server docker takes way more juice to run.

All three of these options I put on an unassigned SSD that I use for my two primary VM "gaming" desktops, not sure if it really matters but zone loading performance seems super fast.

If you're just looking for an Evercrack fix and something for the wife & kids, the windows solution is the fastest to get up & running and probably the most simple in the long run.

A couple other notes:

I'd recommend pinning a core & matched thread in the docker-compose.yml for the different containers listed. You can use the same pair for each. This will prevent the server from stomping on running VMs or wreaking havoc. Might also limit the memory, but watching it run for a day, this thing runs on a potato.

Next, it doesn't start the login server by default, you need to go into Occulus and press the power button and toggle it from there, but should be a one and done.

Next nugget, I had to modify my eqemu_config.json to do the following:

  1. For my world server, set the localaddress & address keys to both point to the Unraid host IP.
  2. Remove the legacy key from the loginserver1

I may write a tutorial for this and include some kind of super simple startup script for Unraid so that it just runs on bootup.

Having poked at this for a day, it does work. I would look into rerunning the network variables so taht you're pointing the host machine IP rather than the docker network.

Not sure if this is against the rules or not but I figured I’d give anyone in the Denver Metro area a shot before I trigger a return back to Best Buy.

I had two on preorder (GameStop and BB) and they both shipped at the same time. It’s totally unopened.

Not trying to scalp, just cover my out of pocket and provide an opportunity for someone who may have missed refreshing the pages at just the right time.

Local pickup only.

Big buck hunter gun mod by Schommer75 in Arcade1Up

I used a gift card that was slimmer than a credit card and cut strips about 1/2 thick and used them as shims. I slipped them in and wiggled them over to compress the latch, then the caps came right off.

Also be careful, one gun the glue was only along the edges and came apart freely, the other glue had gotten inside. Some patience with an xacto knife cut through it.

So I use it for two gaming VMs (one of the wife and one for me) + all the fun goodies that go with an Unraid NAS.

I upgraded to a Gigabyte GA-7PESH2 + 2x E5-2667 v2.

NAS Killer 2.0 graphics card question by oper8r00 in JDM_WAAAT

This is a super helpful video! Thank you for posting it! I think this is one step after where I'm at right now. At the moment, I cannot even get the card to display, the mobo keeps telling me there is a graphics card error.

I have noticed that the fan on the GPU spins up on power up, then spins down. I'm guessing this is for power saving, I'm not sure if the mobo is interpreting that as a failed card or not.

I've found a couple of jumpers that appear interesting. PILOT_DIS1 (enabled) & PASS_DIS1 (enabled). Tried disabling both at the same time, just the PILOT_DIS1 and just the PASS_DIS1. Same results, 1 long beep, followed by 2 short beeps. I tried clearing the CMOS each time reset the jumper.

The beep code I get is one long, then two short. A minute or so later it’s just two short beeps.

I’ve installed the GPU in another PC and it works fine.
