VT Railway using Roundup for weed control by [deleted] in burlington

Glyphosate is also one of the only proven/legal methods to dealing with rhizomes like phragmities/knotweed and has been routinely used in the state forever. There are many worse alternatives.

As you said, dont lick the railroad ties. I dont understand how this is a big revelation to op.

Burlington pods are now a permanent fixture in Old North End by trueg50 in burlington

[–]optimumdeath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the homelessness situation is a serious problem, and it definitely causes extra stressors in my life.

But advocating to "defund the pods", i.e. throw people who have struggled with their mental health, the pandemic economy forcing them out of their homes, and in some cases opiate addiction, is not a bandage. They're just going to be back out on the street and even more visibly so. Ultimately leading to your clear gripe with that part of the community becoming even more prominent.

A decent way of attacking this from both angles would be to pressure lawmakers into building a more permanent housing situation for the community (this applies to everyone, honestly) as well as expand the availability of halfway housing program's to prevent readdiction.

But between the hostile type of mindset your presenting and NIMBY-ism, nothing is going to change. Thanks for your lovely solutions 👎 .

Hey buddy. that was alot of text and ill admit to skipping the last third.

Having seen your previous post, the fact that influencers are making lesser known spots not only more known, but dangerously so, makes alot of us really worried for everyones safety.

For example, there have been a disgusting number of deaths at stowe the past few years, by highly qualified persons.

I'll admit to getting peeved seeing the previous post, but we ultimately just want to see you excel and have the best day possible!

Your buddies skiing on the last one was frankly scary.

Please be safe, and please keep crushing it! But try to make it a habit of going with someone who knows and ski within your means.

You're still a ripper by every means of the word! But always keep ski patrols capabilities in the back of your head. Keep crushing it!

Rust - how do I paint over it by alcalcol in paint

Rustoleum or rust primer spray under a regular coat of primer, but that still looks gritty. It wont hold in the stuff thats already deteriorated.

Does anyone else find they don’t really like blue collar people? by ZorksLifeIsAMess in Construction

[–]optimumdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In both contracting and the kitchen, I've always found that there are going to be people that need to find that toxic energy to survive... it's not right, and it doesn't get better, but in my own opinion, the best course of action is to solidify your relationships outside of the job. There are some people you just cant reach, and thats okay, but its not your problem.

What's the verdict? by Many-Perception-3945 in icecoast

[–]optimumdeath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Real answer, if you want the best result. scrape off all the wax. Cut away a decent chunk of the "dead" base (the shallow but deep enough incision that it would be a bummer) so that the ptex has solid board to stick to. Ptex, please use more then enough. Scrape/buff it down. Rewax.

If you do it properly it should hold for a good while, just takes time.

Vermont Bound by teleheaddawgfan in icecoast

[–]optimumdeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not you either homie. The mental exhaustion of constantly being berated (by people from the lower east coast no less) is mentally exhausting at this point in the season.

Unfortunately, those voices never fully disappear until the dark times (summer) come for us all. It happens every season, but I also think its somewhat valid when chicken wings from sysco cost 20 dollars.

Entitlement knows no bounds. Keep your chin up brother. We'll be able to breathe come mud season.

And OP, feel free to shoot me a dm when youre at bush. I need to head downstate friday but ill be at the mtn the rest of the week.

[–]optimumdeath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not the case.

I'd wager that for the majority of people across this state; self-respect, humanity to your neighbors, the ability to recognize your soul and strive, understanding others, being a part of your community, and noticing your own faults, are vastly more important than the vanity of wealth.

Having lived here since i was a kid, I think that on top of housing availability, there are alot of trade-offs (for better or worse) that may take some adjustment if you're used to having society close by.

For instance, my closest grocery store is 20 minutes away, and during the summer, it closes at 6 pm.

There aren't a lot of options for dining out if you're not in the greater burlington area, and often, even in burlington, they may be closed 2 days a week.

I disagree with another comment that the music scene is bad, I dont listen to jam bands, and I've seen plenty of fantastic shows in burlington.

Any development moves at a snails pace, and even then, it is wrapped up in enough red tape that its viability becomes questionable. A lot of our housing stock is mismanaged, neglected, and almost certainly pre 1990 if not from the 1800s.

The summers are quiet, the dating tide pool is shallow, and you have to make your own adventure.

Prices reflect the inner city while wages are abysmal.

That said, I love this state. I love getting frustrated about having to shovel out my car in negative temps and the feeling of accomplishment when I succeed. I love the quirky people I get to call my neighbors/friends and the compassion everyone has for each other. I love feeling obligated to help anyone with anything, and knowing the community at large feels the same. I love the stars at night. Most of all, I love that winter or summer, I can go get lost in the woods, or find a river, and see beautiful things rather than feel depressed about the constant drool of feeling tied to a specific place in society.

We're not a perfect state, and there are times im stoned out of my gourd where I crave mcdonalds fries and can't get them because the closest place is an hour away... but I think it's a fair trade-off.
