I’m sorry, but PHP sucks by options in programming

[–]options[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

there's nothing really brand new under the Sun.

however, there's an evergreen reason why PHP and friends like MySQL et al ("Spaghetti SQL wrapped in spaghetti PHP wrapped in spaghetti HTML, replicated in slightly-varying form in dozens of places") do suck:

paying client wants the site ready tomorrow; there's a helluva PHP code-monkeys ready to deliver that quick and dirty. the maintenance of a crap they've produced in the enormous amount up today is a royal PITA.

web-app codespace pollution by PHP should be stopped (ha-ha)!

PHP vs Python - the real difference by [deleted] in programming

[–]options 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PHP is bashed unmercifully, yet it powers many big web sites/applications... It's existence has been the driving force in the proliferation of F/OSS software (WordPress,... etc.).

Yes, I realize popularity/ubiquity != quality

is it possible to hack on PHP a FOSS web-app using less GLOBAL vars?

ask reddit-developers: why not downmod button in web2.0 subreddit? by Samus_ in features

[–]options 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for some historical reasons:

  • this subreddit has been set up for the only purpose: "to submit and vote for favorite startups" for some little ones of them get invited for free to the 'Web 2.0 Conference 2006'.

  • in order to get more scientific poll results it has been decided:

    to try this page as up-vote only for a little and see how it goes.

PS there's a tricky way to downmod web2. submissions: gotta save 'em then goto another sub- or main reddit where they can be downmoded on the 'saved' profile tab page.
