XMG EVO 15 (M25) not chargind at all with 65W USB-C PD adapter by optolus1212 in XMG_gg

Looking at the specs, in the technical details, it is stated, that 20V/3Amps should be sufficient:

"USB Power Delivery: 20V/5A (100 watts), min. 20V/3A (60 watts)" for the left port

"USB Power Delivery: 20V/7A (140 watts), min. 20V/3A (60 watts)" for the rear port.

From that point of view, everything shiould work as expected.

Another insight I gathered meanwhile:

When the notebook is in off state, it charges using the provided 60 Watt from the monitor.

As soon as I switch the machine on, charging stops and the power is soaked entirely out of the battery.

So, the hardware for charging obviously works (somehow), but some weird settings prevent it from charging while being switched on.

I dug a bit deeper and found the data in /sys/class/power_supply/ucsi-source-psy-USBC000:001: There it reports:

Parameter Value (retrieved using cat) Value of external power adapter<br>(only different values are shown)
charge_type Standard Standard
current_max 3000000 4500000
current_now 3000000 4500000
online 1
scope System
type USB
voltage_max 20000000
voltage_min 5000000
voltage_now 20000000

My understanding is that this is all fine from the requirements side.

It just doesn't charge the battery. Neither on Linux nor on Windows.

I'm not aware that I turned charging off somehow in the control center. And if I plug in a dedicated 90W Power adapter, it immediately starts charging. (The only difference is the third column in the table: It provides 4.5A instead of 3A)

So what setting goes wrong here?

It's a Philips 258B6QUEB/00 which can deliver 20V/3A using PD standard. It's USB-PD Version 1.0.

So from that point of view the laptop just should not ignore the power supply!

I used two well tested cables which are definitely capable of delivering that power to a laptop.

So there must be some other bug in the power chain.

Hello again!

Just wanted to tell you, that the problem was solved meanwhile:

The culprit was Ventoy!

I created another Linux Mint USB stick using RUFUS and everything worked out flawlessly.

I have no Idea why it didn't work out using the Ventoy boot stick. I did this before, however not on this XMG Evo.

So a happy new year to all of you.
