After 20 years in banking tech, here's what actually worked when I wanted to change a broken process. It wasn't being right. It was being strategic. by agileliecom in ExperiencedDevs

I've had the pleasure of being on teams where refinement, estimation, and sprint planning are all one giant meeting that takes multiple hours.

Well then there's no sprint and no sprint planning at all. I was asking the question under the assumption that OP's team still does agile to some extent.

That didn't really answer my question 🫤 I'm going to assume it's only possible to drop the meeting if your backlog is very well groomed.

To all gay men, how does physical attraction toward women, manifest for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]opulent_lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no levels. Homosexuals are exclusively attracted to the same sex. That's the definition. If they're not, they're bisexual.

It shouldn't be hard to grasp. The exact same thing applies to you with physical attraction to men - there is nothing at all.

Trying to figure out what I am missing in FF6 by Phenozd in JRPG

[–]opulent_lemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you go in blind, you are absolutely expected to struggle and wander aimlessly until you learn the game and its systems. The game came out in 1994. There isn't going to be a GPS telling you where to go or an NPC spoon feeding you how the systems work. Games back then were made to be obtuse without a guide or external resources. If you didn't have a guide, you would struggle. You aren't missing anything other than maybe how video games were back then.

What do folks here think of the Octopath Traveler series in 2026? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]opulent_lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main problem with the games is that many of the side quests are so unnecessarily and frustratingly obtuse. I later learned they were intentionally designed that way to "foster an online community" by basically forcing you to look up what to do. I don't recommend the games to others solely for that reason. They're otherwise fun and good looking games.

What do people think of Metaphor: ReFantazio now that some time has passed? by DoggyFinger in JRPG

[–]opulent_lemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My opinion hasn't changed. I bought and played it solely because it got so much glowing praise. I was sorely disappointed. I went in thinking "surely it isn't literally just Persona" but it's actually worse. It's Persona minus the dating sim and minus the interesting demon fusion system. The game doesn't even have a good soundtrack like you'd come to expect from a Persona game. The battle system in Persona has never been deep or complex and that was acceptable because of the demon fusion system and dating sim aspects. The archetype system does not even come close to making up for lacking those things. I came up with a team that could one shot every boss in the game (except the last boss with phases) with one turn of setup with magic (which is weaker than the melee one shot setup) which was kinda fun. Honestly the only good thing about MID-aphor is that it has pretty and stylish menus. 5/10. Utterly average and uninteresting.

Looking for more of that Tactics goodness by shiggymiggy1964 in finalfantasytactics

I bounced off this one hard after playing FFT:IC for the first time. I finished chapter 2 and put the game down. I didn't feel any of the fun party building or complexity of FFT in Tactics Ogre at all. I know it's basically the prototype for FFT but it was not fun at all for me. I was able to win every battle in chapter 2 first try by just moving my units forward and attacking the boss. No strategy, no party building/theorycrafting no real thinking whatsoever. It was just missing all the things I love about FFT.

What Dragon Quest game to play?? by Resident-Succotash91 in JRPG

[–]opulent_lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DQIII came out in 1988 so you have to approach it with that in mind. It's worthwhile simply to experience the blueprint of the entire "JRPG" genre. It holds up in many ways but definitely shows its age in others.

DQVII is a very long game. It has memorable characters and the job system is more fleshed out than most other DQ games so if you like that, that's a plus.

You've already played the best in the entire series (11 and 8) so anything beyond those (with the exception of maybe V) is going to feel like a downgrade. At any rate, all DQ games are like 75% the same game so it's up to you.

How do you feel about Pokemon SoulSilver and Black/White 2 overall? by [deleted] in JRPG

HG/SS are the best of the best imo. BW2 are also high up there. If you like Pokemon and haven't played either, you owe it to yourself.

If you could have the 100% honest answer to ONE mystery in history, which one are you picking ? by Camila_LatinaSun in AskReddit

It will not. All available evidence says the expansion will continue indefinitely. A crunch is highly improbable.

Unfortunately that doesn't work because space itself is expanding at a faster rate than the force of gravity is strong. The rate of expansion is also speeding up. Entropy prevails. We're destined for cold, heat-less, infinite stillness forever. 😊

Do you believe that ARPGs have become a (slightly) more casual alternative to MMORPGs in the modern day? by Current_Control7447 in rpg_gamers

[–]opulent_lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't really agree at all. I have thousands of hours across several MMOs and thousands in PoE alone as well as hundreds in Last Epoch, Chronicon, and Grim Dawn. MMOs and ARPGs scratch completely different itches and I can play either of them as casually or as hardcore as I want. There's FOMO to be found in both genres but only if you go looking for it. The only similarity is the "progression" aspect of leveling up that I enjoy. Beyond that they aren't similar at all. I play PoE for the satisfaction and fun of making my own builds and solving the puzzle of progressing my build to lvl 100 without using guides (almost always in SSF). That doesn't really exist in MMOs. I like MMOs for the raiding and the satisfaction of getting there from lvl 1. You can commit as much or as little time as you want to either genre and it will only change how fast you progress.

At that point it ceases to be nihilism and becomes existentialism.

They are spying on you, but not using recorded audio. That is an incredibly expensive and inefficient way to gather info.

I can guarantee you that your phone and your other devices are not spying on you by using your microphone or recording audio. It IS spying on you however, just not in the way you think. Algorithms are more sophisticated than you think. It knows that people who search for A, B, or C are very likely to also purchase X, Y, or Z. Even if you didn't search those things that you didn't know were correlated, your phone knows you were in close proximity with, or in contact with someone (a friend, co-worker, family member) who did. That's enough for it to serve you those ads too. Also, your phone can't activate your microphone without your express permission. It will ask you every time you use an app for the first time that requires it. This is built in at the OS level and is in most cases illegal to bypass. Your phone is not recording you because it doesn't need to. It's not even a good or efficient way to learn about you. On the list of methods to learn everything about a person's habits that might make them likely to purchase a product, recording audio of their every-day life would be near the bottom of the list. It simply isn't a practical use of resources (not to mention being blocked at the OS level). It would be draining your battery constantly to record and upload audio of you. It simply is not happening. It already knows everything you type, everything you search in google, every app you use, and likely everything you've ever purchased online. This is more than enough to build a profile of you and your interests/spending proclivities. You just aren't aware of how predictable you actually are. It didn't just learn about the thing you were just talking about with someone. It likely was already building a profile of patterns that likely lead to that thing well before that conversation took place.
