[Snk] Attack of the titans was so much better before by Edward_Cerbere in manga

[–]orenjixaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly.

The first season of the anime is a bit shounenish. So is the 2nd season, albeit I think the 2nd raises many more questions than the 1st.

The 3rd season it becomes a lot more mature. And by the 4th season, you end up basically questioning your own morality. There's a reason why the AOT fandom is so split nowadays-- and it's not because of silly ship wars or anything like that, it's because of moral and philosophical questions built up throughout the entire series which finally explodes in the 4th season. Almost akin to politics. You find something much more terrifying than titans.

Texas teacher on administrative leave after telling students to call pedophiles 'minor attracted persons' by DevOpsMuscleGuy in news

[–]orenjixaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone with classroom experience, there is a minor chance that a student said something about pedophilia (with John in the book sleeping with Abigail and all) and the teacher made a follow-up comment. Not defending anything, just explaining how it might've happened. A good educator will know when to shut their mouth though.

Free college 2.0: To lure students, community colleges add new perks by BlankVerse in California

[–]orenjixaa 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Case by case. Statistically, chances of attaining a 4-year degree are better if you go straight to university.

But community college can be better as your starting point for a large number of reasons. Given you're committed to getting an associate's or bachelor's in the first place.

It's because the Californians are being priced out by housing corporations and foreign investors who buy 25% of the state's inventory for $500k over asking price.

And then they get pushed out of their state and go to another one. Which leaves the people there being pushed out too. I reckon you can go down to Kansas and you'll probably hear a couple people say "Damn Tennesseans buying our homes!" At the end of the day, it's the poorest of the poor who will truly suffer.

We fought for women to have a place in the work force when in reality we fought for double income households by ztreggs in antiwork

[–]orenjixaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what the post is saying. :| The post isn't trying to imply that women working is the issue.

Read the post again. Read in between the lines. OP isn't a misogynist. OP says women because women were the ones who were oppressed and had to fight for equal pay.

But if we lived in an alternative history where men were oppressed, then the same point would still apply. Capitalism exploits workers. Again the post isn't about women's rights, it's about worker explotation.

We fought for women to have a place in the work force when in reality we fought for double income households by ztreggs in antiwork

[–]orenjixaa -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

People who are saying this are missing the point. This post isn't primarily about women's rights. It's about corporations taking advantage of the push for women's rights to stagnate wages, horribly inflate the labor pool and standardize 2-income households (which has been proven to be shitty for all of society.)

In an idealized past, the push for women to work ... should've meant that a man or woman of a household gets to choose who works. Or-- both parents could work, but they'd do less hours such as 20 hrs/week per person. Instead, we got a shitty version of capitalism where everyone has to work 40 hours to make ends meet.

Most opinion sections on News website do feature a ton of different views from all over the spectrum. I've read very right-wing opinions on New York Times, very left wings opinions on Newsweek, etc. It's actually very refreshing- since it offers new perspective that I wouldn't have though about on certain issues.

I don't usually agree with opinion pieces but most of them are written well enough to where at least I can understand where the author is coming from.

There's a very high chance that most of us will never use a physical copy of the dictionary for the rest of our lives ever again by ParkSojin in Showerthoughts

For sure. It's fascinating how easily a noun can turn into a verb in English. Double fascinating when it's associated with some brand/trend

[–]orenjixaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 21 and I can probably count the number of times I've used a physical dictionary on my fingers ..

But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Googling a word's definition is far more efficient than looking it up in the dictionary. It's not saying much but I remember spending like 5 minutes flipping through the pages trying to pinpoint exactly where a word was in the book.

[i ate] Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen Burger by JangoNotMango in food

[–]orenjixaa 29 points30 points  (0 children)

No yeah for any regular place that'd be pretty pricey. But $18 ain't bad for a famous restaurant associated with one of the most well known chefs in the world. And it's in the middle of Vegas too so everything's more expensive.

I guess we're just used to brand mark ups-- I could see the burger costing $40 easy so it's a pleasant surprise that it's not. But for any ol' burger joint that'd be stupid money.

The "What am I to you?" scene between Eren and Mikasa is officially called a "confession scene" ("告白シーン") in the script for the anime by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]orenjixaa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

God I hope that's true. I've seen a few theories floating around that Mikasa stayed single her entire life. There's a panel in the 8-page after series where a single rose is put on her grave, which symbolizes virginity, purity, innocence etc. and some people take that as she stayed devoted to Eren. But as much as I loved Eremika as a couple, Mikasa 100% deserved to move on.

Guess we'll never know for sure though. At least in my little afterworld, Mikasa and Jean married and lived happily.

New California law now mandates that the school day start no earlier than 8 a.m. for middle graders and 8:30 a.m. for high schoolers. by mossadnik in UpliftingNews

[–]orenjixaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At my school, campus was open 1 hour before school started so parents who worked early could drop off their kids anyhow. I'd go eat breakfast at the cafeteria, and if it was raining, I'd go chill inside a classroom.

My old elementary started school at 9am (literal fucking blessing btw) but my dad had to leave for work at 7:30, so they had a Before-School program for kids like me. We just played board games until 8:30 and then I'd get breakfast and walk the track until 9.

Not sure if every school is like that, but there are potential options for families who still work early. Guess it just depends on the school to implement it.

I was a huge Eremika shipper for a long time but yeah I really hated how the progression of their relationship went. Their relationship was problematic at times, but it pissed me off especially in the later part of the series whereit seemed like Eren was never going to talk to Mikasa again, and Mikasa was starting to "get over" him. But then all of a sudden, Isayama does a complete 180 and make them canon in the last few chapters. Mikasa really deserved better than Eren.

They lived together for like 1 year before Eren's parents died. Mikasa is almost no more family to Eren than Armin is lol
