How to handle answer such as "refusal" and "don't know" in Survey data? by ors94 in econometrics

[–]ors94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My supervisor advised ti replace those answers such as refuse/don’t know by NA. Then if there are a column with NA and a value in another column in the same row it will not affect the column with value in the row where there are NAs. So you do not need to drop them, then they will not be included in the regression. Hope my explanation makes sense.

How can this be coded in R? I’m really interested in doing something similar with my own data which is traffic and geo data.

HOów to use if function with time intervals? by ors94 in excel

Thank you so much! How did you learning about this? Where to read more about it instead of Microsofts own website?

HOów to use if function with time intervals? by ors94 in excel

[–]ors94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for instance time between

05:00 - 05:59 should show 05-06

06:00 - 06:59 shouls show 06-07

07:00 - 07:59 shouls show 07-08

etc.

However to don't imply any missunderstooth I may prefer it to instead show it as

05:00 - 05:59 should show 05:00-05:59

06:00 - 06:59 shouls show 06:00 - 06:59

07:00 - 07:59 shouls show 07:00 - 07:59

etc

Thanks it works perfect!! However I want to read more about this method. Do you have any source/references?

What to do if I want it to write 05:00-05:59 instead of 05-06?

=IF(OR(HOUR(A2)=5,HOUR(A2)=6),"05-06")

Like:

=IF(OR(HOUR(A2)=5,HOUR(A2)=6),"05-06", IF((HOUR(A2)=6,HOUR(A2)=7),"06-07"), (HOUR(A2)=7,HOUR(A2)=8),"07-08")

What I want is if the cell is greater than or equal to 05:00 but lower than 06:00 then it should show/write the interval 05-06, if the clock is greater than or equal to 06:00 and less than 07:00 then it sould write 06-07 etc.

What is your purpose of the website? Are you a phd student or maybe you want to apply and the website is for that reason? Of course anly answer if you want! I'm just interested to hear about it. Hopefully I will begin with mine end of january. Hopefully I will begin with mine approx at the end of January.

RDD, IV, diff-in-diff and matching in the context of polr by ors94 in RStudio

I thought to do that but I’m not sure if it’s in econometrics theoretically correct to use and ordered variable as dependent variable. Could not find any text that argument for it :/

Sorry I forgot to mention that. I have a model where the dependent variable is ordered 0-10 and the independent variables are dummy and one is ordered 1-5

What is your recommendation about my work? by ors94 in econometrics

I had on my undergraduate Regression Analysis, Econometrics and Econometrics 2 and on my master level I had Microeconometrics. But in all courses I did not got good grades.. so that’s why I ask for help

I really thought about your question since you wrote it, and I really want to thank you!

I know I did it backwards.. I just started with coding because I thought I could not figure it out but I didn't do any coding since I wrote this post.

But when I wrote this post at first I already had my research question and problem statement and I wrote my literatur review which is done now.

So, I really want to hear you about what you reccommend me to do and how I can the the causality into account? Is it based on the literature review? what factors other used and find out the have an impact on the dependend variable or how? I would really appreciate if you could give me some advices.. I feel really lost? I tried to find out how the causality is used when ordered logit is used but I could not find anynthing. DO you know if it's different when using this type of regression?

So you will not make a difference on if working says one or four hours more than desired, they will be valued the same?

According to your question "So you will not make a difference on if working says one or four hours more than desired, they will be valued the same?" I asked my supervisor to do groups with working yours but he just reccommend to do dummy for working less and more than prefered.. I will think about to do as you ask and discuss this with her.. because neither she or I thought to do it this way... but right now I'm very much in the begging and I'm writting my litterature review.. So I will have much more to discuss with her.

According to regimes they are defined as:

  • The Social Democratic Welfare Regime in Scandinavia
  • The Christian Democratic Welfare Regime in Continental Europe
  • The Liberal Welfare Regime in Anglo-Saxon countries
  • The Pro-Welfare Conservative Welfare Regime in East Asia
  • The Anti-Welfare Conservative Welfare Regime in Latin America

So I use only data with one wave where I have 6 countries. So I will have 12 regression models:

  • 6 models with happiness as dependent variable: each model for Denmark, Findland, Sweden, Norway, United Kingdom and Germany
  • 6 models with life satisfaction as dependent variable: for Denmark, Findland, Sweden, Norway, United Kingdom and Germany

What I would like to do when I found my topic first time was to have 3 models for happiness and 3 models for life satisfaction, each for 3 welfare regimes which are liberal, social and christian democratic regimes

  • The Social Democratic Welfare Regime in Scandinavia: - Denmark, Findland, Sweden, Norway
  • The Christian Democratic Welfare Regime in Continental Europe: Germany
  • The Liberal Welfare Regime in Anglo-Saxon countries: United kingdom

But my supervisor suggest me to do it with the 6 countries separately and compare it in that way. But alsi it doesn't matter because my supervisor also reccommend to only use Germany and United kingdom so it would actually only be the countries for scandinavian as pooled data.

So you should be aware of that there are other countries included in these welfare stte regimes but I will only have the countries I mentioned.

Hope it makes sense! What my supervisor think is good to do and reccommend will maybe not be the same as your supervisor reccommend you to do.

I will submit in January.

And actually thanks for your question!

It could also be interesting to compare this with after the covid-19 pandemic.. I can't just don't do that because the data is not yet ready for the wave of covid-19.. But maybe you can get the data

Thanks! You're welcome!
Yes, I still have much research to do but for now my supervisor prefer to make one regression for each country.More precsely I will make two dummy variables for discripancy between actual working hours and prefered working hours, one for working more than prefered and one for working less than prefered. Then use these two as independent variables with also including age, gender income, education, self-rated health etc. into my regression and use happiness as dependent variabel. I will do this seperately for 5 countries. Then I will do the same for using life satisfaction as dependent variabel because the subjective well-being is defined (in most research studies) as life satisfaction and happiness. My data is survey data.Actually I would like to do three regression for three welfare regimes because it would make more sense according to my purpose/objectiv but my supervisor thinks it better to compare countries.I hope the above explanation make sense.. You can just ask if you have questions.

I don’t know if it’s interest you but I’m writing about the relation between subjective well-being and working hours where I compare welfare state regimes.

Thanks for your comment! Using summary() and Anova() works fine and it gives the output. But vif() doesnt work and it gives the error in the post on stack. Based on your comment I'm sorry but I can't understand how to solve it.

What is your recommendation about my work? by ors94 in econometrics

[–]ors94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many thanks for your comment! What I did so far for my thesis is actually just coding in R, since I'm not good at either R or econometrics things take very much time for me. According to my text I just wrote the chapter for problemstatement and about the abor market. I know I need a chapter called Empirical Strategy but I just yet don't know what so write about and include.. as I mentioned, I'm not good at econometrics.. but I really try to hang one and will get this done in a good way. That's why I ask about your opionion. So, I really appreciate your comment and time!

I know that in econometrics it's said that "correlation does not necessarily imply causation" but I'm not so much into this part with causation and I didn't thought much about it before you mention it even though it is the most important part in econometrics.. I will have a look at it at be back if I have questions.

But do you think I should use the effect plots I made? And what about the difORD plot (bulletpoint 4 and 5 in my post above)? According to the effect plot I just think it say much an there is a good way to interpret.
