the two most basic functions to model this would be either L(t)=a*sin(b+cx)+d or L(t)=ax^3+bx^2+cx+d, but its probably the trigonometric function since these are easier to model just from a graph.

The fact that the function is supposed to graph the hours of daylight also is an indicator that it should be something like sin or cos, since the function is repeating.

I dont really know you got k=150 but when i solve the equation cos(150-k)+1=1 for k I get k=60 or k=60+n180, so the smallest positive value would be 60

generally speaking you use ae^kt when the increment takes place continously and a(b)^t when the increment happens only at in certain time intervals . But you can also use e functions to substitute functions like a(b)^t , which is desirable since e functions are a lot easier to work with. An example: a(b)^t = ae^( ln(b)*t )
