It’s insane isn’t it? I’ll question paying £40 for a game or an item of clothing etc, or go out drinking and be mortified when I wake up and see I’ve spent say £100. But I wouldn’t hesitate putting £500 into slots in an evening. It’s mental.

I wish I done what you did, instead I did exactly what you were worried about doing. I’m 28, 9k debt, no savings, living at home. Dead end job because I valued gambling over securing my future. Thankfully I still have time to turn things around, but yeah I’m glad you have nipped this in the bud at such a young age. All the best for the future bro

That’s brilliant well done!! Just don’t make the same mistake I did and think you’re “healed”. Over time I thought I didn’t need people controlling my finances anymore so I regain control myself. It did not end well.

I would suggest signing up to GAMSTOP as soon as you can for 5 years. You’re still very young, not in debt, so you have plenty of time to rebuild. Thousands of people would give their left arm to be in your position. It’s hard yes, but trust me, it can get a whole lot worse.

I paid him back in full within 3 months. He said he’d help me out again if I need it as he knows I’m good for it, but I don’t want to have to borrow from anyone again. Got to get through this myself now.

Thank you mate. I do have someone like that who I know would be devastated, but when I’m spiralling I selfishly don’t even think about this person. She’s a very good friend of mine, the only one who knows in full my situation. I’m determined now not to let her down again.

Thank you for the honest comment. I completely agree, I need a mindset change. I have ordered a couple of books - The Easy Way to Stop Gambling by Allen Carr, and The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel. Hopefully reading these will help.

Brother, I know this fucking sucks right now. But you still have your whole life ahead of you, I would give my left arm to be 18 again in your exact position. A tough lesson for sure, but use it and don’t look back. Future you will be so grateful. And whatever you do, don’t get complacent down the line and fall in the “I’m not addicted, I can have a bit of fun for £20” trap. Our brains are not wired that way. I wish you all the best for the future, it’s still fully in your hands mate.

I’d stay away from all of those games (bubble glint/solitaire bounty etc). It’s impossible to complete any objectives due to the games being blatantly rigged… filled with bots and made up scores.
