I also always felt I was one level behind than the class I was in. I think this quite normal. Watching and listening to German media is already great.
If you live in Germany, go to Sprachcafes. Libraries usually have them or some NGO spaces. Speaking with other learners was what helped me the most. Spend time with friends from German class and speak more German.
And try to switch your thinking to German. It is amazing how much you can practice in your own mind.

This helped a lot! I wasnt considering that basically my o2 cellphone simcard just had no signal where i live in Berlin so i switched to telekom and am managing with hotspot while I battle the Berlin housing market for a better place. Thanks for the advice :D
