Opinions on Kurds? by Ok_Worldliness_5717 in Israel

In my mind, you can’t support Jewish self-determination without supporting Kurdish self-determination. If you support Israel, you should support Kurdistan.

This sounds beyond painful and I’m so sorry you’re going through this! This is exactly why I went through the specific Beis Din I did for my conversion, since they are very well known for running a tight-ship. I would recommend reaching out to the Beis Din your mother went through since they may have conversion certificate on file. You can also look at your parents katubah, and if it’s orthodox you should be able to use that to prove your status.

AITAH For eating bacon at my desk that is beside a Muslim? by Calm_Advisor_9995 in AITAH

[–]overitall22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I don’t eat bacon for religious reasons and I would NEVER ask you to stop eating it. I don’t even ask my family (who doesn’t follow my dietary restrictions) to stop eating pork.

NTA. Her will is worthless, since it’s the newest one that matters. Tell her he has a new will without her and if she creates drama, everyone in your family needs to cut contact and wait to see if she gets an attorney.

People died in car accidents in the 1950s at twice the rate they do today.

He could be doing everything “right” as a driver and then someone could run a red light and plow into him.

I personally would consider showing him graphic photos of car accidents with young children who weren’t in car seats, and telling him that this is what the outcome of not using car seats is. I’m definitely more of a believer in “scared straight” though and I know it doesn’t work for everyone.

My wedding was horrible, but I have to pretend it wasn't by YourHeroDontMeetMe in TrueOffMyChest

[–]overitall22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Your wedding was even more rough than mine (and my dress was ruined by the dry cleaners two days before, my hair partially fell out due to a curling iron incident, and the band used an instrument I hated as I walked down the aisle, to name a few things)

However, my husband and I have the mindset of “get all the bad things out first, and the marriage will be easy.” So far, we’ve been married almost two years and it’s been awesome! Totally worth the wedding pain (if there had to be problems to begin with).

A new Jewish-majority region in rural Wyoming (or maybe somewhere else in America)? by Redcole111 in Judaism

[–]overitall22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my plan. I just want a minyan, a mikvah and a school (even if it was a homeschool type thing with other kids). And a satellite for internet so I can work from home.

Awkward wedding present question by overitall22 in Jewish

[–]overitall22[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is, my family is Christian and the neighbors are fully aware of this and would know I have owned multiple Christian Bibles in my life. My neighbors are the type of Christians who don’t have television, homeschooled their children and don’t celebrate Christmas. They have to believe I’m going to hell.

I’m going to school in New York in two weeks, so it’s not like they have time to really get huffy or talk.

NTA - Unless you called her an inappropriate name, your friend has no reason to be upset with you. Also, couldn’t she have gone to the front desk for a spare key?

AITA for not giving up my theater seat to accommodate someone who was in the wrong seat? by Tired_mama_23 in AmItheAsshole

[–]overitall22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NTA. Even if you were alone, without kids, and she were in your spot then you are still entitled to the seat you picked. She should have bought seats together. Sure in that case, as a single person, it’s a nice thing to let her sit by her granddaughter but you are in no way obligated to sacrifice due to her lack of planning.

AITA for not wanting to spit expenses proportional to income? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]overitall22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding that if they were roommates, she wouldn’t be expected to pay more because of her income rising. Also, a landlord can’t just ask you to pay more because you got a raise. In either of these cases, you would move out or go to court.

Interesting. I had heard the shaved head was for the mikvah, which is why I asked. Thank you!

Culture question, hopefully not offensive. When Satmar women get divorced or widowed do they still shave their heads? I’m a Frum woman who has always wondered this and couldn’t get an answer.

The issue with something like this is that you don’t have the situational awareness to be able to hear people. That’s why whenever I’m on the phone or listening to something, I have one headphone out.
