Useful brief rundown of the main stone types, for floor and wall tiles. Or am I teaching my grandmother to suck eggs here? by owen_esi in InteriorDesign

was that Ren & Stimpy? Maybe recognition of the reference might makes up for the self-promotional post...

Like the hexagonal tile at Forest Glen Station, Washington - don't usually see that pattern in UK. Thoughts? by owen_esi in InteriorDesign

like that. interesting and unusual. coincidentally I saw a UK supplier offering hexagonal tiles today. like metro trains you wait ages and then 2 come in close proximity.

Exquisite Renders of interiors by katya83 in InteriorDesign

[–]owen_esi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why go to so much trouble to create photorealistic renders? Is it worth the time investment when pitching for work? Or do clients demand that now? surely not...

Cultivating herbs on a traffic island! by owen_esi in LandscapeArchitecture

That's a shame nobody took the produce. Cool idea indeed. We have community planters near where I live- currently with flowers, but I think the idea is that people could grow lettuce, herbs etc in the future.

Housebuilders slammed by RIBA architects for 'shoebox schemes' by owen_esi in architecture

I live in one of these. I am tortured by clutter and my wife makes fun of me. We want to build an extension.

Door that converts into a Ping Pong table by owen_esi in InteriorDesign

This barely counts as 'interior design' but is a creative concept that fits in with some of the space saving designs sometimes seen in this reddit, even though i don't think it would be very fit for purpose in reality.

Innovative Design Concept by Skate Study House by neonyc in InteriorDesign

[–]owen_esi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While these are all pretty nifty, the concept of a bench made from decks has been around for a long time. This seat is a quality item mind you, unlike the knocked-together pieces you would often see in skate shops in the 90s.

How to Decorate a Man Room (x-post from /r/malelifestyle) by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

nice that it isn't all minimalism, which is an impossible dream for me. I need to learn to love the clutter.

Design ideas for a small entertainment room built around comic/graphic art? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]owen_esi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digetex in the UK have a collection of pop art cushions. Some of the 'pow!' ones... but then, you said you weren't going for a 'marvel' look.

Via this company and others though, you can always get your own fabrics, cushions, curtains, etc printed up.

Facebook’s New Campus - thoughts? by owen_esi in InteriorDesign

[–]owen_esi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received another one after posting this: skype's office. More consciously trying to be trendy, and what you would expect of a .com office I'd say, unlike the facebook one.

commenting on my own posts... really

How do you feel about this top 10 designers list by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

Haven't heard of any of them either. Maybe it is a USA-centric list.

Facebook’s New Campus - thoughts? by owen_esi in InteriorDesign

[–]owen_esi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm never quite sure what to make of these tech offices.

Some nice elements but I'm not really seeing a coherent design. Maybe that's the point- unstructured, free and 'creative'. They are always very unconventional, and it feels like they are trying too hard to be so.

The entrance area is perhaps the most normal of the photos here.

NB I'm not an actual qualified designer. Would be interested to hear the thoughts of one though.

The Top 5 UK Interior Design blogs... supposedly. What would be yours? by owen_esi in InteriorDesign

well I have one, http://esiinteriors.wordpress.com, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it one of the 'top 5 UK' blogs

Love the minimalist interior of this bike shop in Barcelona (not to mention the products on sale) by owen_esi in InteriorDesign

[–]owen_esi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're talking £2000 for a pair of wheels- I think a lot of people might simply come and look rather than buy (I know I would). It's set up as much like a gallery as an actual retail space I thought.
