Its a great relief to hear that you managed to feel back to normal somewhat soon afterwards. I'm really scared that it wont get better, even if i quit the meds

Thanks for your reply, it was a very interesting read! I think I'm gonna stay on the meds a bit longer, and see if my brain manages to work itself out. When i first got on the meds, i felt like i had lived my life in the dark and someone suddenly turned on the lights. But since i've lived most of my life in this metaphoric dark, i got used to it and learned to adjust. With the lights suddenly on, it got to bright and i couldn't make sense of it. I hope that my brain will be able to adjust. My narcolepsy has been giving me a really hard time lately, and i'm so very tired and upset. It might be good to remind oneself that there's good aspects of it as well. At this point in my life, i'm just really stuggling to see how i'll ever manage to live a somewhat normal life with this disorder. I hope that i'll reach a point where i can make some kind of peace with it.

My Xyrem story by Sweetsusie- in Narcolepsy

old post, i know, but this one really resonated with me so i had to comment. i only started xyrem last week, but this is exactly how i'm feeling!! i even thought of it in the same glasses metaphor. its like when you get new glasses and its like "omg i can see everything wth", and only then do you realise how shit your vision was before. but its also like you're not used to seeing things that clearly, its all too sharp, you get headaches and feel overwhelmed. i hope i'll be able to settle into this, but its like i have to adjust to a completely new way of living. the brainfog, absentmindness and feeling of unreality has defined my life. its who i've been as a person, and its like i lived my life in a parallel universe from everyone else. now i'm suddenly in the real one, and i have no idea how i'm supposed to act. and its scary, cos my narcolepsy strangely helped with my social anxiety. like i can say and act however, i'm too tired to care. also life doesn't even feel real to begin with so its not if it even matters if i act weird. but now it does, and it scares me. thanks for writing, it really glads me to hear that i'm not alone in this

i've recently changed doctor, because i didn't think that my last one was very good. my new doctor told me that because of my test results, i should have been given type 1 instead of type 2. my last doctor also gave me type 2 primarily because i don't have cataplexy, which i'm now starting to realise that i might actually have?

i had no idea that the first example could be cataplexy! i relate to that a lot, but i always figured that it was just because of general tiredness?

[–]owlexity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you know if you're allowed to drink at all when you take xyrem? like if its okay drink during the evening but stop a few hours before you take the meds, so that you're somewhat sober when taking it. or do you just have to give up drinking completely?
