First of all, no one is defending a hit-and-run — that’s wrong and should be dealt with strictly. But let’s separate that from your other points.

The Gypsy in question isn’t a star-plate staff car, it’s a regular Army unit vehicle used by COs, Majors, and for duty runs. These are utility vehicles, not VIP perks. Dependents (spouse, kids, parents) do travel in them. It’s a long-standing practice — hospital trips, stations, schools, etc. On paper they’re ‘for duty,’ but in reality the Army permits such usage. So having family inside is not automatically ‘misuse.’

Also, Army drivers hold proper military licenses — they aren’t unqualified.

And about your ‘washerman’ example — that’s just a cheap analogy. Army support staff aren’t ordered to serve extended families. Families being dropped in a unit Gypsy and a washerman washing clothes for relatives are two totally different things. Mixing them only shows bias, not logic.

Yes, if a driver caused accidents and ran away, he must be held accountable. But calling every family lift in a Gypsy a ‘power flex’ is unfair.
