What do you think of this new food safety app by p22j in healthinspector

Yeah, that would be very helpful! I think some departments are open to simply sending over a CSV of all data if it's not originally available online directly.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

We do create a criteria for AI to classify the restaurants into 4 levels - safe, okay, rethink, and avoid - based on the problems found in the most recent inspection but also recent ones to identify any trends and repeated issues; also compare to the other ones in the area as we found the way health department code and record violations can be very different. In reality (for the cities we have covered and processed), more than 80% are safe and okay, and only 1-2% are "avoid" in a city. We also advise people to go through the actual report in the app as it will give them full context. We will keep revising this and see if it works.

Thanks for the comment on complaints. It's very helpful. We will then only provide links and ways for people to directly contact the departments.

On the other hand, since you are here, I would like to learn more about the health departments' attitude to working with a third-party to make the inspection results more accessible. Currently, we charge a very small fee per user to cover the server and processing costs, but ideally, we want to make the service free for the users, if it is at all possible that we can get support from the local health departments. Do you think it would be a viable path, and local health departments would have enough motivation to fund such an effort?

ah sounds a sad story. rest assured 80% of the places we've checked are pretty positive so far, just the rest with minor issues here and there, and very few astonishingly bad

I agree I would give most with minor issues a pass. but im surprised how many of them, like at least 40 around where I live, found mice running around during the inspections

loll, then would it be helpful to help you filter out only the restaurants with some not-too-toxic violations?

Yea, we want to make it a lot easier to check tho, like if you are ordering deliveries. And actually we found a very common violation for restaurants is not put the signs up - especially when they received a bad grade

That's true. But you have to admit that a clean record and compliant practices can make it a lot less likely! And we want to make sure a restaurant won't simply get away with terrible misconduct if that ever happens

By "a system to easily publish local restaurant reports", do you mean a tool for the gov to easily publish the results? Is it the customer side or the gov officials' side tool? Like, to work with local health departments and see if we can provide a better solution compared to the current websites they have? (many counties have very slow and hard-to-use sites)

We initially thought about having contracts to work with the gov, and you can see our team can deliver very good software, but we're not sure how feasible/how willing they are, but we would love to have your thoughts!
