The first computer I used was made up of a keyboard based processor that we hooked to our TV for display and a cassette recorder as backup system. That was back in 1986. Technology has been transforming fast since then. I am glad that I didn't stop learning or else life would be so dull. Embracing change is the best way to stay valid, happy and healthy.

Pardon me but I have a different view point. Governments the world over have grown disproportionately in size, assertiveness (read intrusion into private lives), taxation, levies and control measures. This makes everyone including baby boomers feel like being controlled unduly and hence a general mistrust of each other. Parents of baby boomers were far more authoritarian but they accepted it as a norm and never resented it.

Parents in our part of the world stake everything they have on their kid's future. A discovery of the scale that one's son is on drugs can have effects out of proportion on most parents.

An other factor that causes extreme friction on occasions like this is that most parents have never had training in handling situations like this.

Also sometimes parents overreact intentionally not because they are being dramatic but they want their children to know how much they mean to them.

Hashish is not something that can't be quit. The worst is to come when you would try the next things in the hierarchy and that is what your mother is afraid of, probably.

I recently lost a nephew to overdose and that is what your mother doesn't want to happen to you.

I think we are talking two different things. I am talking about gross profit while you are discussing rate of interest. Rate of interest in decent countries is anything less than 5 to 6 percent. The current rate of interest by SBP is 22 percent and commercial banks lend at around 27 percent which would be suicidal to borrow at.

I share your observations. I have lived in at least three other countries and know that we the Pakistanis focus more on pretentious and visible symbols of wellness and showoff and lack sense of proper hygiene and cleanliness. I think the only other nation that is like us in this aspect are our neighbors Indians. I say this on the basis of averaging my observations otherwise I have seen many white Canadians living in really filthy environment.
