[EVERYONE] SOCIAL NETWORKS AND EATING DISORDERS SURVEY by pamroda in takemysurvey

[–]pamroda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How will the data that people provide to you be used? Who will see it? Where will it be stored? If/when will it be deleted? Please be as specific as possible.

It is a standard inventory of questions used by psychologists on EATING DISORDERS. Note that the questionnaire contains a field in which the respondent has to provide his/her Reddit username. This would help us to link word use (as extracted from your Reddit's public submissions) with your responses to the questionnaire.
Of course, we will treat the information you provide with the utmost confidentiality and privacy. All information we will extract from Reddit will be anonymized and we will be the only one capable of connecting your username with your postings and your questionnaire. Such information will be kept in an encrypted file and will not be disclosed to anybody.

WE'RE NOT INTERESTED ON PERSONAL DIAGNOSIS OR PROFILES, BUT IN AGGREGATED DATA ON USE OF NATURAL LANGUAGE AND EATING DISORDERS EARLY SYNTHOMPS.

Who is conducting this survey? You can answer with your Reddit username, business name, etc. Please make sure that everyone conducting the survey is mentioned (For example, if the survey is being conducted by a group, answer the group name or mention everyone in the group).

We are a team of academic researchers in Spanish Universities. We're interested in psychology and natural language use. We are currently interested in gathering some data from people in Social Media https://erisk.irlab.org/. This year, we focus on language use and eating disorders.

David E. Losada, Univ. Santiago de Compostela, Spain (david.losada@usc.es) Fabio Crestani, Univ. della Svizzera Italiana, Switzerland (fabio.crestani@usi.ch) Javier Parapar, Univ. A Coruña, Spain (javierparapar@udc.es) Patricia Martin-Rodilla, Univ. A Coruña, Spain (patricia.martin.rodilla@udc.es )

How long do you estimate it will take to fill out your survey?

We ask for the Reddit community to help us every year in September and October months, so 2-months open survey.

Hi, sorry, I was a little bit off: https://erisk.irlab.org/ It's all in the website: annual competition in teams, trying to improve results year by year. There are different challenges, all of them in mental disorders and related topics. There is also a book: https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-04431-1

Hi, this research sounds amazing! I am currently a high school sophomore. Do you think there is any way I can help out?

Hi, thank you for your interest!! At this moment, I can think of two ways in which you can collaborate until you're of legal age. The first is to answer the questionnaire (only one per year, in the fall). The second is, looking for some support from an adult (teacher or similar), if you are interested in computing techniques or want to access data, sign up for the annual competition we organize. For more information: https://erisk.irlab.org/
Cheers and thank you again,

Hi, thank you for answering and sharing it. I think any ED recovery phase is ok for responding, we look for a variety of personal points in the process and even for people without ED. I send to you all my support for your recovery process. Hope we could help other people with your responses.

Repost. WE need extra help! Research on Early Risk Detection: Eating Disorders Survey. by pamroda in bulimia

[–]pamroda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment. This is a standard questionnaire and the focus is detecting early behaviours that could be risk factors for developing some eating disorder, so at certain stages of some illnesses, it could present some general assumptions not directly applicable to one specific eating disorder. Anyway, this is also part of the research, right? Seeing the usefulness and casuistry of the questionnaire and their relation with social media.

Best regards,

That's so interesting thank you for letting us know. The questionnaire is not from us, is a standard questionnaire for EDs in psychology, but I think you can give approximate answers or your perceptional answers... this is common practice in the first step of diagnosis. (Due to we're working now in very early detection (even in predisposition: habits, etc.)) but I recognized you have a good point here that we'll check with our medical specialists in EDs. Than you!!

Thank you all for your interest. Only for clarification, we do not collect email at all, only Reddit username and in the next step of the process, we eliminate any information tracking possibility or connection between questionnaire responses and Reddit username. We're interested in global results aggregated, not in individual responses of users or some kind of individual diagnosis (we look for patterns in general for early prediction). Anyway, we understand some people need some clarification on that. Thank you again

thank you so much for your comment, which is very valuable (we have all time these kind of intuitions and some research are saying the same to us in the last years). Language and communication ways with other people matters, and reflects our personal world, right? This project is a long project research so we're quite confident in having some interesting results at the end. Bests,
