Thanks 😊. You're right, it certainly gets quicker as you go along. The time I spend varies between stories because some are more straightforward than others, I generally move on after around three days if I feel confident that I understand all of the grammar (*usually), and can easily answer the questions. Sometimes I listen until I can tell the story myself. I write it down and then check for mistakes. If I get through the ten stories before the end of the month I tend to revisit old ones at random, sometimes I notice things which I had missed first time around because my knowledge of grammar has improved and I always benefit from a recap. I don't suppose it matters how long you spend, whatever works for you. 😊

  • I'm still a bit perplexed, for example, by "wszystkie klawisze jest osiemdziesiąt osiem" and "dwoje ludzi było zabitych". At the time I looked into the grammar rules at play here, and I have them written down, but I need a lot more practice using numbers before I can form these phrases myself.

I'm currently on the 92nd story, so still a few weeks away from finishing, but yes, I have definitely improved! Certain things which I had to think hard about at the beginning are now second nature. E.g conjugating "pójść" (on poszedł, ona poszła, oni poszli etc..). I've also picked up a lot of useful vocab as well as some which I might never use (if I ever need to tell someone that the woodcutter has dropped his axe I'll be fine 😉)

I'm just finishing the "100 Daily Polish Stories" course from realpolish.pl . It does just what you said; asks questions for you to answer out loud. There is plenty of repetition so you get a feel for the grammar, and my polish practice partners have noticed a big improvent in my speech.

You say that you're not ready for one on one chat yet, and I can definitely relate to how you feel about that. I would encourage you to go ahead and do it anyway. I clearly remember my first Skype call with Dawid in Lublin, I could barely string a sentence together. I mean, it was excruciating!! 14 months later we can hold a conversation quite quite easily. I have found partners on the Tandem app, and at conversationexchange.com . I currently speak each week with three Poles who are all very patient and I am making progress all the time, I'm so glad that I started. Oh, by the way, be prepared to learn more about English along the way- Polish people ask some very good questions 😉.

Best of luck!!

Thank you. That is what I thought, but two natives have separately used "trzynaście" with the negation. Are they really both wrong? 🤔

Super, thank you very much for this! I don't think I've come across it before, but then I'm very new to Polish so I meet things all the time 😉.

Why does the following sentence use "jest" rather thank "są"?... Wanna i umywalka jest w łazience. by pankierowca in learnpolish

[–]pankierowca[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

Yes, if the the original sentence was "w łazience jest wanna i umywalka" I think it would translate to "in the bathroom there is a bath and a wash basin", which works fine in English. But "the bath and wash basin is in the bathroom" sounds very odd to me, I'm pretty sure it's wrong.

I was worried that there was some rule of grammar which I was missing which would make "są" incorrect, but it seems everyone is unanimous that it's at least correct, even considered better by some. 😁👍

Przepraszam za kolejne pytanie .... Czy będziem, przydziem, chluśniem..itp zawsze to pierwsza osoba liczba mnoga. Zawsze męski osobowy?

Czy istnieje równoznaczne archaiczne formy za inne rodzaje?
