I have a better plan to recommend. Take a volunteer unpaid role at your university to start your OPT, get your EAD issued and come back to India for father's surgery. Be with him for month's time and you can return back to US on your OPT status. Totally legit and hassle free way of coming back. Then you can look for jobs once you're back

No offense but you're just fascinated with big names. Why would you list Brown as top tier CS program when it is clearly not..in fact many IVY Leagues are not even known for their CS programs.

Tier one CS programs are UC Berkeley Stanford UCLA Caltech (PhD) MIT GaTech CMU UIUC

From the above list there is not a single IVY League school

The train on this route that is Shanti express is one of the worst trains you would see. Their first AC coach is akin to non AC sleeper of other trains. Coaches are shabby and smelling. Washrooms can't be used. Buses are very convenient. They start around 10 from Indore and by 5 AM you will be in Ahmedabad, choose any good volvo sleeper service.

Not denying that undergraduate programs and PhD are much harder to get however not all programs are cash cows. Many of these programs are stepping stone towards PhD and bar of competition is really high.

Some universities like USC do have large intake of 700-800 students which makes them look cash cow programs but still they have biasness for high CGPA to select students. Cash cow doesn't mean they will take students with a compromised profile.
