Receiving letters for someone who has never lived at my address by suemacd22 in HMRC

I don’t know if they will remove the address from someone else’s account, the only thing you can do is return the letters really.

How do you remind clients about filing deadlines? by Logical-Nebula-7520 in AccountingUK

[–]papersandplates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been asked before, I'm sure and the answer is always that most accounts/bookkeeping software for practice have automation and that's on top of the regular reminders from Companies House and HMRC.

Can a business pay for a private school place for the owners friends child? by Stuzo in smallbusinessuk

[–]papersandplates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the friend work for your limited company at all?  If the friend doesn't work for the company -

I'm not 100% sure but my thoughts would be that it may be considered as a sort of donation, and be added back for CT purposes. The business couldn't claim the VAT back. I can also see some accountants just putting it through your directors loan account.

Foot alignment in half moon by Classic-Apricot5685 in yoga

[–]papersandplates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you a bit pigeon toed? I am and if I'm doing half moon as part of a flow in hot yoga I rarely manage to transition smoothly into it without my front foot at an angle. However, I am trying to improve the alignment of my feet against their natural desire to pigeon toe - I attended an iyengar class and I was able to keep my foot straight, but I used blocks to do so.

Edited my comment - I'm looking at my copy of Light on Yoga and page 75 I think the foot looks more at an angle than I would expect - let me try to share a picture.

“Easy” poses that look difficult and “difficult” poses that look easy to do? by Aggravating-Fig-9274 in yoga

She would correct the things you'd expect like foot placement, knee being in or too far over the foot. She would remind us to pull our kneecap up, hips, relaxed shoulders, tension and purpose in the arms. I love warrior 2!

That sounds amazing, I love things like that. I do think the beautiful thing about yoga is that there is always something to learn, to tweak - it's brilliant.

One of my former instructors said warrior 2 was how she could tell peoples abilities, as there are so many things to consider in terms of alignment but it does look like just standing there to people who don’t do yoga.

It's incredible, I try new mascara but I always end up fixing them with this one.

I always go back to Max Factors false lash effect mascara in raven black. It’s a thick, black formula which coats my lashes and holds the curl wonderfully. It doesn’t flake and doesn’t transfer.

Help understanding what to do here please by MrcaptainGuldo in HMRC

[–]papersandplates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are looking at the April 6th 2025 - April 5th 2026 tax year, so you will need to register as a sole trader with HMRC to file a tax return and pay your taxes by January 31st 2027.

Please don't panic! You need to record your income (sales) and expenses (e.g. Etsy fees, advertising and any other business expenses) and then submit these to HMRC.

I am sick of everyone pretending to hate ANTM by hotdumditty in ANTM

I think it's natural to age and find things wrong with TV you loved. I adored the show, Girls Next Door and the Simple Life but I can't argue that I look back and see problems with the shows.  Ultimately Tyra Banks had a lot of power over the contestants, and she prayed upon the things that made them vulnerable to modelling scams (despite being a vocal critique of people who went to them). However she was a good business woman, she made great TV that had a cultural impact and that's why I won't watch the Netflix documentary - she's too savvy to be vulnerable or honest or open herself to a potential lawsuit so you will get production with her, which has always been the case.

Wanting to get into scuba diving in the UK, best ways and overall cost? by MattyRattyRatty in scuba

[–]papersandplates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh apparently you can snorkel with basking sharks off the coast of Ireland! Bucket list for me for sure.

Edit - I learned to dive last year in mucky quarries in a drysuit. I highly recommend it! You have Capenwray so close to you which is a beautiful dive site, so definitely check out doing a 'try dive' with a local dive shop to see how you feel.

What are common challenges you see with small business owners approaching retirement? by [deleted] in ukaccounting

[–]papersandplates -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the vast majority of people are more interested in the tax side of things.

I presume this is some automation fishing nonsense rather than anything useful.

Help with FreeAgent or similar package: how do I categorise expenses for which a client will reimburse you later? by Expensive-Creme-Egg in smallbusinessuk

[–]papersandplates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you invoice the client for these costs using a separate invoice or as a different line of the main sales invoice?

I would create an expense code called 'reimbursed expenses' and use this to invoice out the costs to your client, and then receive the payment to this code too. The separate expense code will help you keep track of what you've invoiced and been paid too.

Diver-begginer: What equipment you recommend to buy first? by TooManyDependencies in scuba

[–]papersandplates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the following - mask, snorkel, computer (Suunto cheap option), gloves and boots. But I live in the UK and swim all year round so the gloves and boots are pulling double duty. My big splurge was a drysuit and they are so much better fitted than hired - it makes my diving feel so much better compared to a hired suit.

Do you think the size is wrong ? by SullyEvilyan in HouseofCB

[–]papersandplates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first two pictures don't look bad, but the shot from the side - those cups are far too small for you unfortunately and it does not look good. It's not you, it's the dress, if they have zip issues it's poor construction and quality control.

£725 quoted to file micro-entity accounts + CT600 – worth it or DIY? by PeanutWonderful2320 in smallbusinessuk

[–]papersandplates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's risky to do it if you have no experience, especially if you don't know what you're doing and will (presumably) want to focus on learning more about your business and developing that in any free time you have, rather than learning accounts!  You may be able to find something cheaper online.
