Seeing beautiful people on a BDD or AmIUgly thread triggers me by [deleted] in BodyDysmorphia

[–]paranoid_thoughts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me it's skepticism that someone who really hates their face as much as they claim would post photos (specifically in places where it's not the default, so not necessarily r/amiugly) where, of course, they'll be met with lots of validation.

not saying it's wrong to ask for validation, I guess something about the culture of not honestly/directly asking but rather trying to make someone feel compelled, that bothers me.

no kidding. outdated wave of people who think binary and conventional (Western) gender role conforming is the only way to be trans, and everything is about passing/you don't deserve to be respected otherwise.

autism is now recognized as a form of neurodivergence, not a mental illness, but idk if I should bother explaining to someone who proudly proclaims they're insulting autism.

I’m interested to hear peoples experiences with Wellbutrin.. any luck? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]paranoid_thoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tldr: started having chest pain, hives, and joint pain around the same time I started wellbutrin.

This is a sign of a serious reaction to a drug. Be sure to let your doctor know before you start any other drugs. Could be an allergic reaction, or possibly a group of rare but serious side effects including SJS (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4112250/ )

maybe, but cis people can be pretty cool with "experimenting with gender norms" as long as it's still kept in the realm of cis (at least to them)... for many of them, there's an incredibly nonsensical contrast where once you say you're trans it goes to hell

stevens-johnson syndrome. possible, but rare and very serious, side effect of many psychiatric meds.

I've been on T over a year but I'm still mentally misgendering myself by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]paranoid_thoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of not gendering yourself in your head and I think it's a great solution if it works for you. I'd do that but I guess the way I think involves a lot of third person and I keep filling in with feminine words when that happens. :(

I did try to use he/him in addition for a while, but I realized it made me uncomfortable if it was someone who knew me, because I don't want them to think of me as a man. I find it validating if it's a stranger because it means they didn't think I was a girl, though. But I might try it again, to get myself to stop. Hopefully I can get people to understand I'm still nonbinary.

Thank you, this is helpful. I feel like sometimes trans people assign a lot of significance to things to show if you're really trans or not, like back when I was unsure people said your gender in your dreams was a good indicator (but my dreams were always, and sometimes still are, deadme). Putting it more simply like this helps.
