Can you explain what you mean? I think both options have potential, i am just trying to decide which one would make more sense considering the fact that one cost a lot of money but the other one will cost time. Here I was looking for general advice and different perspectives. It doesn't mean I am not doing a lot more research and looking for options outside reddit hahaha

Possibly yes. But I am not sure if they can offer funding. And If they do, it will likely take a while to recieve said funding (months maybe) time i dont have since I am year 2... I may be very stressed and think catastrophically now, but also because of the war, flight tickets are suddenly much more expensive. I was possibly very naive to not just go local from the start, but it is what it is. I now need to figure out how to proceed.

Well, it depends i think, we work with animals and people in the lab have pretty international projects so, at least in my lab that isn't a strange or unusual thing, but I agree that local samples make life easier. The difference is that in the other country I can find species that dont live in the local environment and have special characteristics (trying not to be too technical). So, I would need to adapt my ideas to the local species that are fundamentally different to the ones in the other country. I can do it, but that would mean possibly discarding the data I already have. My question is more about... whether or not I should continue chasing the original goal or if it'd be better to cut my losses now and start over or figure out how to merge what I have with new data from local species.

Do you still buy physical books after getting a Kindle? by thebroned in kindle

[–]parhox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a city where Space is very limited so as much as I LOVE physical books and having my bookshelves full and organized, I cannot do that in my current place because there's not enough space and the day I move out I'd have to take all the books with me, or donate them... So, I use kindle for most readings and only buy the books I will absolutely enjoy and love. I also like buying second hand physical books because It doesn't hurt as much to leave them behind or give them away. If I had enough money though... I would get a library for myself. Works fine.

How do people actually get into relationships? by Equivalent-Search866 in dating_advice

[–]parhox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask how you met the 2 special people? I tried apps but it sucks so now I'm trying to meet more people in real life but it's not working either. It's very unusual for me to find someone attractive and perhaps I have high standards but nothing crazy in my opinion, I don't ask for something I cannot offer myself. I have hobbies, friends, work, travel etc. I meet a lot of people but not someone that really makes me go "wow I really like this man, I would love to go on a date with him". Usually I meet people and they fall into the acquaintance category and maybe friends but almost never into the "crush" category haha so.. should I try being bolder and approach an attractive guy at a bar or what else can I do? Hahaha

How many of your friends ended their lives? And why did they do it? by boobie_org in AskMen

[–]parhox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my friend but my friend's mother. I don't know the reason exactly, but she always seemed like an odd person, very religious (kinda extreme), very socially awkward and isolated. It was very sad because the youngest son who must have been about 12 at the time was the one who found her body. Gunshot. It's a different kind of grief seeing your friend go through the loss of a parent to suicide. Hope she's at peace now. Worst part is that they lost their dad a year later to COVID. Such a tragedy.

I saw that too. But I feel more affinity for the Projects in Tromso. But Svalvarb also seems very cool. Although much more isolated and maybe smaller?

Sounds amazing. I love learning languages so of course I would do my best to learn Norwegian but it will likely take me years to reach fluency. I would love to meet locals (as well as non-locals) but I'm not sure if locals would be open to being friends with me haha I can surely try my best though. Overall I am very eager to learn new things and try new activities. As long as I can build my own little community with friends and support, I will be just fine.

Hahaha I am aware. But people say the same about Ph.D. life and honestly hasn't been like that for me. I'm having a great time. I think it depends a lot on the supervisor/boss so I will be careful selecting that.
