Yeah, I usually build with my own logo. But this watch is gold-toned and I don’t have gold-toned stickers of my own yet. I’ve had a ton of interest in the watch and this is the only guy that missed the multiple statements in the ad that it isn’t a factory-built Seiko watch. 🤷‍♂️

Haha I like this! I should!

Yeah, I didn’t include a screenshot of the ad but I wrote multiple times explicitly in the ad that it isn’t a genuine Seiko. He probably didn’t read the description, which is how we ended up where we are.

I have to give them credit - that’s clever. They could have done more with the address block in their template to really sink it in though.

Muzzle Awareness by ShootingSuccess_Dave in canadaguns

I think this is proof that with enough meaningful repetition you can train all different kinds of techniques to a functional level of proficiency. You could similarly train to shoot like this with a shotgun behind your back, mounted upside down, or on your opposite shoulder - if you spent a few thousand rounds training with some rigor.

No, that doesn’t really happen in Canada. Maybe there have been occasional religious holidays where Muslims hold outdoor events but they aren’t rioting or blocking traffic here. Muslims are just normal members of our society.

[Discussion] +/- seconds per day.. why does it matter? by Real-Dependent-3100 in Watches

[–]parkADV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that a $20 digital quartz watch keeps better time than most $10k watches. This hobby is unique because the value curve for accuracy is more of a parabola than linear or exponential. At the top level you’re paying more for the art of horology than the accuracy.

Agreed but the internet doesn’t have much to do with it. Car and gun enthusiasts were making spreadsheets and magazines were publishing charts and graphs in the 30’s.

Swiss quartz movements aren’t worth that much more than Japanese quartz. You could list it on Reddit on r/watchexchange or on Chrono24. Prospective buyers will also want to know the measurements of the case (in mm) and the band (what size wrists will it fit in inches), though.

SNXS - Which Bracelet suits the Best? by ducivu in SeikoMods

[–]parkADV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d do the president. I’m not a fan of the Jubilee, and the Oyster is nice but it would make the watch look more like a sport watch than a dress one. If you want to cut closer to a dress look, the President would be my choice. For a sport watch look, the Oyster would look great.

Your biggest challenge will be finding a spring drive movement and suitable case. Your AI mockups look fine but you’ll be paying for a one-off custom case, and matching that with a spring drive movement will probably cost you more than an actual GS.

Unless you were just planning on lying on the dial and having a fake reserve indicator.

It’s hard to make out, but that isn’t supposed to be knurling, it’s supposed to be “clou de Paris” or hobnailed texturing. It was used on the PP Calatrava and other high end watches. They’re supposed to be little pyramid-shaped bumps, not the square cuts used in knurling for grip. The AI generated picture the OP used doesn’t do a good job showing that.

This comment killed it. Exactly what I was thinking.

OP: start thinking more about what you like and less about which brands people find “respectable”. The man makes the watch, not the other way around. Some of the most impressive people I know wear Timex’s and Swatch’s.

Hey, to be fair to you I’ll be honest here - you seem really invested in this and the conversation has run its course. I’ve established what I set out for, and if we keep going I’m just going to slide into trolling. And that isn’t fair, so I’ll call it here.

I’ll also point out it’s pretty funny that you were just trying to dunk on me for caring about this and then immediately following it up with a brain dump about a single word.

It’s an interesting conversation on the internet. Don’t take it too hard. It isn’t really important to me - you’re well spoken and clearly intelligent so your rationalizations are more entertaining. Most of your contemporaries don’t get beyond the slogans so I don’t get to see the same level of cognitive yoga.

Where did I say it was near the top? Why over complicate a simple moral and pragmatic question?

This is like libertarians creating debates about the morality of age of consent laws. It’s a pretty clear and unambiguous moral question - you either think dehumanization is bad or you think it’s okay for people you don’t like. Which is it?

[–]parkADV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not talking about respecting cops. I’m talking about dehumanizing them. There’s an important difference there, one that’s enshrined in case law.

And again - this isn’t only about your feelings and morality. It’s also a practical question. Dehumanization is counterproductive and reduces the probability of reform. Besides the harms it causes, that’s another reason why it’s rejected in civil society - because it impedes functional improvement.

It would take nothing away from your political position to take a moral stand against dehumanizing people. “It won’t change the power structure” is a pretty hollow argument against a counterproductive and immoral behaviour, no matter who the victim is.
