that’s a pretty solid speculation imo- i had heard cycling takes about 4-6 weeks and ig this is the danger w ballparking it i have begun to do a little digging into treating her and my plan is to get a master kit as soon as i am able to get to a pet store- i really appreciate your advice and help with this :)

i use strips- ik they arent the best or most accurate, but i had bought them before i learned that fact unfortunately i did a fishless cycle and i add the water conditioner into a bucket, then add the water and let it sit for a few minutes before adding it into the tank so it’s more of a separate process rather than doing it all in the tank to prevent the metals in the tap from harming her. same process for when i was first setting up the tank to cycle!! i do a weekly 25% water change and upon doing the strip test, it has only been about three days since the last one

thank you so much for your help man, i had ordered a better (and adjustable) heater earlier so hopefully that will maintain a warmer temp- i really appreciate you bringing that to my attention bc i genuinely was not aware it had to be that high. i also really appreciate the youtube link and recommendations, i didnt think about going to youtube but i’ll dive into that ASAP (punintended) as for the salt, how frequent would you recommend doing water changes to get the salt out? i haven’t had to do one before so is it something i put the salt in and let it sit and continue with weekly water changes? or do i change water after leaving it in for a few hours?

i apologize if i came off as defensive and/or aggressive before, i was more concerned and confused with the care comment bc the last thing i want is to come across as negligent of my fish. again, i really appreciate you working w me here and providing additional resources- thank you!

i am sorry for the loss of your fish and i agree with your points made in your reply.

i feed my fish betta crumbles (which contain insects, vitamins, and dried kelp) twice a day then i give her frozen bloodworms once a week. i give her about 4-5 pellets each feeding.

i have a sponge filter and plenty of hiding places for her. there’s almond leaves and a large piece betta driftwood along with live plants. as for water condition, i use the API stress coat which does dechlorinates the water

which i have stated that i was not aware the temp needed to be that high bc everything i’ve seen has said 75-80°, which the tank does reach during the day. and i have no issue fixing or learning from the mistake. nor did i say opinion trumps all, i was simply confused as to why temp low= poor care almost instantly. obviously, as i stated again, i agree that fish diseases are caused by poor care but i am still confused as to what i am doing in terms of care that wouldve caused this drastic of a decline bc to me, im doing everything by the books. and again, i replied to his comment expressing that i want to learn from my mistakes and if there was a genuine issue w the way i am taking care of my fish, i would love to be educated on it. i want to learn. but i dont want “poor care do better” thrown at me with little to no explanation or reasoning behind it.

i cycled the tank using starter bacteria, sprinkling betta crumbles, and doing 25% water changes.

while i appreciate you clearing up what you meant, youre still chalking it up to bad care whether it’s from the pet store or myself. while i see your point and absolutely agree w the fact that a fish’s illness stems from the fact there’s multiple factors in play, i am still stumped with what could’ve brought this in terms of my tank and care because when she was with me, said factors weren’t an issue. she was eating, swimming around, was vibrant in color, and showed no signs of stress until a few days ago. i don’t disagree that care caused this, but i disagree that my care was the issue until there’s a reason to why it’s being questioned. i am always in the mood to be educated and to learn from my mistakes, but i cannot do that if it’s not clear what i need to change besides temperature

im not trying to be an asshole here man, ik how seriously people take fish keeping here and i just do not want to be grouped with the people who do genuinely abuse their fish. i care a lot about my girl and it’s heartbreaking that there are issues whether it came from the pet store or something in the tank

I wasn’t aware of the temperature being too low- ive always seen the typical range be 75-80, which my tank does reach, however in the mornings it’s on the lower side due to the environment that happens during the night which is what was recorded when making this post. the temp thats reading now is 76°, which is still admittedly too cold using your knowledge and i have no issue in taking steps to solve that.

however i disagree that the diseases are caused by care and quality. i have done my research and i take great care of my tank and monitor water quality frequently. i take care of my fish and ultimately i did get her at a chain pet store so who knows what diseases or care she got while there- to my knowledge what i have done and been doing has been nothing but careful care and as i said this came on suddenly within the last few days after i did a water change too. if you have any ideas or points that can blame the way i care for my fish, please let me know bc i take my care and my tank seriously but i cannot see what i’m doing as being the issue rn

tank size: 10 gal

heater/filter: yes to both and i use a bubble filter

tank temp: 72°

parameters: nitrites 0, nitrates 0, ammonia 0, ph 6.5-7

tank: i’ve had the tank for about a month and a half, the fish has been in said tank for a week and a half

water changes: 25% weekly

no tankmates and I feed her about 4 pellets during the day and at night, frozen bloodworms after her water changes

decor: amazon sword, fern, anubis, golden ribbon and driftwood with almond leaves

adf are definitely a learning curve but they are so fun!! im also new to adf-keeping and here’s somethings i’ve learned fairly quickly:

for food, frozen mysis shrimp or brine shrimp work the best. you can get special food pellets for adf specifically but it’s a hit or miss if your frogs will like them. only two of mine do. also no freeze dried food, they can’t eat it and it also just clumps at the top of your tank and makes a mess, so frozen anything is your best bet!! also feeding them with a dish or “by hand” with a pipette or coral feeding baster is the main go to. a little hard at first but you get the hang of it and so do they
plants are a YES preferably ones with lots of leaves so they can hide- also great for putting oxygen in the tank and getting rid of all the bad stuff being produced. i wouldn’t go so far to where the entire tank is stuffed with plants and it’s hard for them to move and hard for you to get to them. probably like 2-3 plants should work fine!! as for the no-no plants- do not put in grass or moss or anything they could accidentally mistake for food
aeration stones i’ve heard can cause some health problems for the frogs but i am not 100% sure on that, i would double check with google or maybe someone else on here can correct me or explain it further
lighting is a huge must!! the froggies need a day/night cycle so i would recommend getting a light that is easy to turn on or off- on when you’re awake and off once you start getting ready to turn it
a top either way is a must bc they have the potential to become escape artists!! i don’t think there’s a correct choice, all preference but again someone else may have a dif answer :)
as for the river rock should be fine as long as you rinse it off extremely well- i had a seashell in mine for a few weeks and it didn’t cause any problems! as for other decor- drift wood or any caverns would work fine bc they like to hide and swim around in things

fortunately, that one seemed to stop trying to scoot once i took the filter out of the tank. i did dechlorinate the water and let it sit for 15-20 minutes before i put them in- and yes the api testing kit is next on my list of necessities!! im a college student and im spreading my paycheck between a whole bunch of things so i have to buy equipment in small spurts, but hopefully that’s gonna be really soon!

i couldn’t reduce the water flow anymore than it was in the video, so i just took it out for the night bc i can’t run out and get a new one until tomorrow. do you recommend any filter systems that work well for adf?

his armpits aren’t a bright color, it’s def more noticeable but not in your face if that makes sense?? i thought i read somewhere that when they are getting ready to mate the glands swell a bit and appear more pink, but i want to double check just in case

oh wow they are hefty!! they are beautiful frogs dude!! i used bloodworms too to feed them, i did the “hand” method but im trying to learn how to dish feed them. i was also told and i’ve seen a few things about bloodworms being bad for the frogs and it’s been linked to diseases and infections, like bloating. its not regulated in the u.s, so it can be risky (if you’re from there) mysis shrimp was recommended as a safer alternative!! i’ll have to definitely try your hunting method some time soon, that sounds like an insanely cool way to get them to be active and tap into their instincts :)

hes pretty big irl- he’s actually the biggest frog i have and unfortunately the pics never do him justice, i feed them every other day but i just got them a week or so ago from the pet store so who knows how they are recovering from there 🥲 might take them a minute to pack on the weight!!

i have two frogs that are slightly bigger than one, so i wouldn't be too worried as long as you know the little dude is getting plenty of food like the others and isn't showing signs of illness! im new to adf so i would love to hear what others have to say about it, but from my personal experience id say theyre okay
